I WILL HAVE A ZONE IN MY WORK SHOP, WITHIN 10 FT. OF A 20,000 GAL. ABOVE GROUND POOL, PRESENTLY BEING HEATED(NOT VERY WELL) BY A 40 GAL. DOMESTIC ,OIL FIRED HWH. WHATS THE BEST WAY TO GET HEAT TO THAT POOL AND KEEP MY BOILER HAPPY THIS SUMMER. THANKS.

Personally, for the sake of convenience, I'd pipe the water flow from the EKO directly into the existing HWH. I'm assuming you don't use it for domestic hot water, i.e., it's not connected to your domestic water. If that heats the pool when it's hot, then the source of the hot water should be irrelevant.
A better solution would be to buy yourself a standard pool heater heat exchanger, which I'm guessing you can buy at any pool supply house. It would be a water-to-water heat exchanger, with the pool water on one side and boiler water on the other. I've never seen one so I really don't know what I'm talking about (what else is new?), but I can picture what one would look like and how it would work.

I have been looking at pool heaters for my wifes new pool. Oil is a painful choice, a pool can suck a LOT of heat.
I calculated the energy demand for our pool (17X38) from may to oct at 82 degrees and it came to 12 cords!
something like $7k at todays oil prices. aint happening for me with oil. Wife may get a wetsuit for mothers day though!
I think we will go with a heat pump about 1500/yr electric cost for heating to keep it at 82.
solar is a possibility, but i dont have the performance/ price quote yet from the engineer.

Thanks again. could a pool supply house heat exc., be hooked up to the two buried 3/4" copper lines that i use with my hwh? or would i have to dig over to the pool? think spring. GD
Duh i'm new to this OWH isnt oil water heater but outdoor water heater.
search on ebay for "pool heat exchanger".
There are many tube and shell exchangers there. oversize the btuh a bit to account for temperature difference.
as a guess i would double or triple the btu rating of the furnace for the heat exchanger.
100kbtu furnace i would use a 200-300kbtu exchanger. flow rates matter for heat exchange. more flow= more heat transferred.
flat plate can be used as well but may require a bypass valve to regulate boiler return temperature.
disclaimer: i havent actually done this but did some research before aborting burning and going leaning towards a pool heat pump. electric cost for heat pump is less than burning coal where i live. and electric isnt cheap here plug it in and forget it.

IF you connect your wood boiler to the pool you are going to want some type of motorized mixing valve between the HX and the boiler to keep the boiler up in clean operating range. A pool can suck an enormous amount of heat in a hurry and drop the temp in your boiler like a pregnant elephant off the Empire State building. Fast and straight down A 4-way valve will let the boiler maintain a decent temperature while dumping all the heat that it can into the pool HX. An injection mixing control will do the same thing.
