Still morning here and I`m heading out to buy some bark mulch if I can find it. Another sawmill just closed and read that maybe the pulp mill might have to go to a 10 month operation cause of lack of fibre. Last spring I paid $22 a yard for shredded bark, this year? Will update later.

Good news is that the mulch has only gone up by 2 bucks a yard. Bad news is that the supplier just up the road from me is almost out and doesn`t know when they will be getting more. Even my neighbour with the horses is having a hard time finding sawdust for them.

I used to tend to think of recession or depression as people with no money, never thought about the flip side-(no supply). Well at least the sun is finally shining here and this is the first day this year that I`m able to work outside with only a t-shirt,nice and warm at last :)

I use mill chips as mulch in my garden and they too went up $2/yard over last year. This mill seems to have plenty of mulch, all kinds, colors and prices so the supply side looks good for this year at least.

Seems we have plenty of mulch, I just purchased via my pickup truck, a yard of hardwood mulch (I don't think it is bark only), the bad news: $28.50, and the good news, at least it isn't up from last year, maybe less, I seem to remember $32 or something like that.

What would cause a shortage of mulch? Slow down in the building/lumbering/milling business?

The mulch being sold now was made in the last 12 months so if the economy continues to slow the shortage will happen next year. Price increases this year will be to cover extra transportation, production, and handling costs due to the price of fuel.

$30 for heaping pickup load for mulch, cedar at that.

Enjoy: it won`t last long if things keep going the way they are. Eg: no milling, no logging, and if the pulp mills are still running? And that is a big if? Strongly suggest that you stock up-ASAP??

This is a most interesting recession, supply and demand almost colliding. Never seen this before.
