Yesterday I saw a tree company cutting a tree down. They were almost done with it. I stopped and asked them what they were going to do with it. I already knew. They were either going to pay to dump it at the dump or take it out in the middle of nowhere and shove it over a hill. This is how they all do it around here.
I told them I would love to have it. I said I lived about two miles away and I had a road access to my yard. Just come up dump it and leave. I would think they would love something like this. It sure beats driving a loaded down truck 20 miles to get rid of it. They said sure they would be right up. We exchanged numbers. About an hour and half after he was supposed to call, I called him. He said they were just finishing up and they would be right up. I never saw him.
This is the third time this year I've had this happen. One of them was cutting a tree down right next door. I told them I'd love to have the wood and offered to haul it off. They said sure but since it was big pieces and there truck was already there. They would be bring it over for me. I even showed them where to put it. Once again, it's not tough getting to my back yard. There's a road right next to it and I'm not picky about where they put it. The guy came over with a pickup load of it and I helped him unload it and thanked him. He said the would drop the big pieces off in a little bit. I went to work and when I returned no big pieces.
Another guy said the same thing and never showed.
And finally I saw a truck loaded down driving by the house. I flagged them down and asked for the wood. They said it's pine you don't want it and I said sure I do I like pine. They said they were going out the road to look at a job and they would be right back. The truck was diesel and I heard it driving all over the hill. They were looking for a place to dump it. Infact, the next day I saw the wood dump in a "park and ride" parking lot near my house.
What's with these guys? They drive around looking for a place to dump wood without having to pay to get rid of it. Risk getting caught and fined for illegal dumping when they have someone begging for it.
I'm thinking about offer to pay them for it. How much should I offer? It wouldn't be by the cord or anything, just something like, I'll give you X dollars if you dump that in my yard.
