Just a simple homemade concoction that kills ant in firewood and home.Take any spray bottle fill 1/4 with bleach and about 4 or 5 squirts of Dawn dish liquid.Fill to top with water shake lightly and spray ants.Put setting on spray and your good to go.Ants are dead in about 30 seconds or so.The solution soon loses it's potency and your firewood can be burned without any toxic fumes.

Just dishsoap and water works also thats what I use. Cheaper than buying ant killer kills them just as fast.

Citrus cleaner works good on the little black ones that used to get into my sink.
Only thing that seems to work on carpenter ants and these darned red and black ones that seem to be thriving here now is my shoe.
And Sevin.
Even Sevin only seems to work in the Winter when they can't move fast enough to shake it off and run.
Will try it though.

I tried my flame thrower on carpenter ants, and it is more fun. Them ants were cremated by the dozens, too. Only problem was, I didn't get my firewood stack to stop smoldering for two weeks, and by then there wasn't much left of it. I was thinking about trying a little different technique with the flame thrower, but with the price of gas where it is today, I dunno. Rick

Interesting, and it seems the bleach isn't needed from the subsequent posts. I'd assume the bleach would be the real hard stuff for the ants to take, imaging being sprayed with a high concentration bleach solution, all over your body, verses being sprayed with soap bubbles.... I'll take the soap, guess the ants can't.

Perhaps, but I think they're all made in China, and when you use your flame thrower as much as I use mine, local customer service and replacement parts availability counts for a lot in the purchase decision. I'm going to stick with the brands carried here in Flame Depot. Although Flame-in-the-Box is having a blowout sale this weekend I may take a peek at. Rick

i use moth balls cheap and easy... just put a few every other layer when u are stacking, seems to work for me....
I take the really cheap way out. In over 30 years of wood burning I have never put anything on the wood and have never found any ants in my woodpiles. Hardwoods, softwoods, none of it.
I run a condo complex for mouse nests but no ants.

I read about this method many years ago and it also kills ALL bees.........in flight, or in the ground. Yellow jackets, hornets, wasps etc.
Of course I don't spray honey bees............just mix in a gallon jug SLOWLY so as not to make too many suds. You want slick feeling and soapy. This is supposed to suffocate ants and a lot of other bugs because it restricts their ability to breath.
I shoot a full nest of wasp and not one will fly.......they all hit the ground and crawl a couple inches and fall over.
Ants don't have a chance.

In all the years I've cut and stacked wood I've never had ants in the piles.
Under them. Near them, but not in the wood. Carpenter ants in trees I've cut down and up, but they leave once thier fine home is disturbed.
I've found carpenter ants n between sheets of plywood and boards stacked or abandoned outside, but not in the piles of splits.
Mice, a few, snakes, only in the Summer baking in the sun. Stinkbugs - too many. A properly swung split is a deadly weapon for bugs.

Just plain old windex or any similar kind of window cleaner will kill ants fairly quick. I've used this method many times.

I assume these soap based killers work only on ants that are directly hit by spray/splash...i.e., spraying trains, hills will not kill ants.
