Can some one tell me, the pole in the center, just for measuring purposes? or is it also for a type of support?

Never did a hh but from looking at the instructions I would say it is there to tell you when the pile is dry and has shrank to the right mark on it.

yea thats all I found also, just hoping I wasn't missing some thing. And hey Carl, I say give one a try, they look pretty cool, and not as tricky as some make it out to be

Carl got it right. Just a way to judge when it's dry. They are pretty cool looking, but if they are too tall and wide can be a pita when it comes time to bring pieces to the fire. I had to use a ladder to get at my 8 foot HH's.

I made mine plumb and used it to help keep the pile straight while building up but it's primarily there to indicate dryness.

I don't bother with the pole. Just finished my fifth one. Mine are 8 feet round and 8 feet tall.

WOW Quadman that is nice to see <You got your self some wood there. How much wood do you burn a year..
I really like to see people hard at work to make there yards look nice But if you build any more you might have to charge addmision to see all them statues
I had a pine that I split up thought I had3 plus cords, I started a hh at 8 ft Diam.and I only got up 5 ft and I ran out of pine  My main sorce of wood is hardwood So now I have a round 8ft x 5ft cicle in the yard :bug: . Well pine seasons faster then the hardwoods. So Ill burn the pine intill it get to cooled And then knock down the 7x7 of the hardwood
And Im out of pine To finish it.
