We all got to do what we feel is best for our particular situation. And if some folks want the purtiest and most costly stove available that`s fine too. I can well understand the asthetics viewpoint and other folks ability to afford the very best / fanciest / etc.
Normally I`m the first one to agree that paying a few bucks more usually gets you some nice or more important features but my spending limit on a pellet stove would be the Harman P38 at no more than $1800-$19000 or the comparably sized Englander at much less. Obviously if you need a larger stove or an insert you have no choice but to allow for a higher cost.
$3,000 and more is a lot of money to shell out for having to store 4 tons of pellets + that aren`t always available and then have to lug them around from one place to another.
Before spending more money that stated above , I`d have think hard about going back to a Pacific Energy Spectrum wood stove that use to heat my entire house for 3.5 cords a year. Yeah, it`s dirtier , harder work and a PIA too but it`s very cheap in comparison and the beatiful fire can be a joy to witness.

I just called my lumber yard pellet distributor and inquired about pellets . They are still out and said they have a 4 week waiting list.
I`m damned glad (and lucky) 6 weeks ago I jumped (I was the first caller) on a barely used Harman P38 for $500 that came with 36 bags of Dry Creek premium . I also bought early 4 more tons.
If pellets jump too high next year the pellet burner goes and the wood stove in. I`ll have no problem getting my wood supply.

Just like the Cadillac commerical.....when I turn my stove on, it better return the favor! (especially for 4G's) ;-P

Yeah. I would rather just buy a Englander pellet stove and get a phone number from Elliot Spitzer and have $2,500 left over.

The Englander stove is a good way to get your feet wet at the lowest level and not sacrifice efficiency.
One could always upgrade if things end up favorably.

I spent the money on the P68 because from what I read it is one of the most efficient, most reliable, automatic, requires less cleaning and the list goes on as to what the added benefits are to me. I purchased my stove from another state because it was way cheaper than my local dealer. As far as warranty service goes, when my local dealer was trying to sell me a stove one of their pitches was that the warranty is transferable. They did not say that the warranty was transerrable but nobdy will service it but the local dealer. There could be some legality issues for Harman in the near future that would force their dealers to honor all warranty claims weather the stove was purchased from them or not and if the dealer refuses they will loose the line. I may be wrong on this but I have seen it happen in many industries. When the manfacturer says the warranty is transferrable it means it is transferrable to any state.

IF anyone in Maine has an issue with ANY warranty service, or if it is not even under warranty, CONTACT the Attorney General's Office. Maine has some of the toughest Consumer Protection Laws in the country. The Attorney General's Office has a list of products, and how long THEY believe they should last. The Attorney General's Office will pursue the manufacturer to perform the repair, free of charge. In a lot of cases, manufacturers know this and you can just threaten to call the Attorney General and you will get what you want.

ONLY buy an extended warranty if you want the convenience, otherwise you are already covered in Maine.

With any thing approaching luck the new owners of Harman will loosen that "selling dealer only" warranty bit up a little. It has been a major pain for some Harman stove owners on the forum. A couple of years ago the Forum was full of posts from stove owners having problems with that.

Great stoves Dane. Now, how about the service end?

As far as the "elitist" crack, I don't care who buys what pellet, or wood for that matter, stove. There are good ones out there in all price ranges. Had some conversation with Cumberland Stove Works about providing service for their stoves around here. Looks like an ass kicking multi-fuel stove.

yes. the nanny state will take care of you.

personally, i will get out my toolbox and fix the darned thing myself. harmons (and most other pellet stoves) are rather simple to work on once you know the theory of their operation. i like to know how my stuff works so that i can fix it after the warrenty has worn out.

Paid $2489 (on sale)for my Harman Accentra free standing stove, $350 labor and $400 for piping and no tax if installed by Harman dealer here in northeastern Pennsylvania. They cant install till late July, they are backloged on installs till late July, most business in 15 years they say, just adding my two cents. I tried other Harman dealers who wanted to **** me with my pants on,shop around for the best deal!!!!

I paid $1499 for my P38+ several weeks ago. The store owner was a little upset he couldn't sell me any of the "add on's". :)

I'm in So. NH, and ordered my Harman P68 on June 10th, 2008. The dealer is giving 10% on all, including parts, labor, installation if order is placed by June 28th. Stove retailed for $3293. With it being color, another $100, parts $475, labor $395, came to $4263. After taking off 10%, we paid $3836 for a colored P68 with installation. If anyone wants his name, let me know. The 10% off saved us $426.30. But, the unit won't be in until September 29, 2008. I already ordered 5 tons of pellets at a "low" price of $269/ton plus $90 delivery and they're private labeled for NEWP. Good luck to all!

I would love to know the dealer. We need to finalize our purchase this week

p38 purchased for $1890. piping ~$300, labor $500

I might of waited for a englander, but I would of purchased it most likely at a Home Depot, and they don't carry them in the off season. And I wanted to buy pellets AFTER I secured a stove.
Buying pellets in the fall this season just does NOT seem like the right way to go.

I paid $3094 for a Harman Accentra Insert to be delivered next week. I notice that there is a 10 % price increase ( $3454) on that stove now and delivery is questionable.
