Burning Coal

I have a similar model made by meyer mfg. Coal works great mixed with wood. I would try adding small amounts at a time in with your wood till you figure it out.Try filling half full with wood , 1-3 shovels of coal ,then top off with wood.

For the coldest of the winter dec, jan and feb I use a little coal, it puts a great heart in the fire and throws out good heat along with the wood.

It doesn't really matter what size it is, there's many different grades. I buy a mid grade/ mid size coal and add only a handful per log. You play around with it to see what best suits your needs, its wood I'm burning at the end of the day, and the coal is just a booster of heat during the cold snap.

I'm in Ireland, but looking for a homestead in the USA/ Canada.

I gather my coal off an abandoned railroad bed. I believe there may have been a train wreck many years ago. It varies in size from powder up to about 3".
