And then this *&%#'n "gem"!! http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/grd/729499512.html. First, there ain't know such thing as "Dutch" elm, though there certainly is Dutch elm disease. Secondly, since when does any elm burn like friggin coal?? Rock elm' pretty decent firewood but it doesn't grow around New England and even it is nothing like coal. And $350 freakin bucks???????????. I'm callin the Better Business Burea!! :vampire:

Thats nothing Burn-1, I have seen where they actually slump and they are dried dog poop white...now that is overfiring!!!

Adios your a chemistry guy, math goes hand in hand...show that guy the importance of a decimal point!!!

People do pay a lot for pallets of wall building stone. If you have a truck- it could actually be a deal.
I don't know about the trees- many lumber companies are loath to get them from yards where they might have nails or an eye bolt from an old hammock or dog run in them. For lumber it's more often "we'll cut and take them free"

I was always under the impression that a face cord was only 32 square feet(1X4X8) , but I assume that this guys face cord is made up of 16" lengths of wood presenting a frontal view of 32 square feet. As a woodworker i have heard tales early on in my career(30 years ago) that a primo black walnut tree could fetch $10,000+ at market. This tree must have been fungus rotten for him to cut it up into firewood. Much of the black walnut furniture quality lumber comes from around the Pennsylvania area. But you are right, even small billets of a rotted tree could be carved into beautiful sculptures, boxes,, hand mirrors, resawn for book match pieces. etc.

Here is a listing for $200 for "prob about 4-5 cords of wood here". Hope there are more photos/wood; doesnt seem to be 1.5 cord there.

That pile isn't that high or deep. I doubt that you could neatly stack it into 1 good cord! Maybe NJ cords are measured differently. Perhaps the cord is defined as the amount of wood encircled by a mobster's garrotte, you know, the kind applied to traitorous gang members in the front seat of cars? Never mind. I think I have seen "The Godfather" too many times.

Reminds me of a time (30 years ago) I called about an ad for a truckload of wood. I asked how big the load was and the gal told me "I don't know but it must be a pretty good sized load, the truck has a lot of gears".....

I didn't pursue it any further. Maybe it was a 5 speed Datsun pickup. :(

That's the first thing I want to know about a wood supplier...what kind of transmission is he running, and how many gears. %-P Actually had a couple of Datsun 5-speed pickups...cool little trucks, but they wouldn't haul much wood (or anything else). Had a brand spankin' new one in 1970 that hauled everything I owned and me and my dog just fine. Rick

Just in case you need a shed that'll hold about two or three splits:

http://bend.craigslist.org/for/736322588.html

Actually that is a bargain and I strongly recommend anyone in the area buy it for that price if you need a wood shed. It will hold over 10 cords! That's 10*20*7/128 = 10.9 cords I use the same thing to store my wood. You can take off the sides for more ventilation all summer long, wood gets super dry in mine. You can also fill the metal poles with concrete to make them indestructible. Its worth much more than 80 bucks.

Those are nice...before I built mine I was looking into something like that. Was also interested in the metal car ports. But they are around $1000. I would buy it...

Oh, gee whiz...I imagine it's an OK price for what it is, I was just amused at the seller's use of the "inch" designation rather than the "foot" designation in specifying the dimensions of the thing. Nevermind. Rick
