Feeling the Heat

There has been so many posts concerning the current availablity of pellets, questions about future availability and all about pellet prices in general. It seems to me that the smartest thing to do is to purchase the pellets you feel you will need to last through next winter right now. This way, your heat for next winter is already secured and paid for, a very good feeling indeed.

I've already purchased my Barefoot pellets 3 weeks ago and today they are now costing $25.00 per ton more - delivery is extra. I was told that I WOULD receive my pellets in September and can only hope this is true. In the meantime, I will probably grab a ton or so of some good quality pellets, just incase my delivery comes later after the cold weather arrives.

From all the posts I've read, I get the impression that most people purchase their pellets for next winter in advance, and most already have them in their possession. There are also those who don't worry about supply and purchase pellets as they are needed, perhaps bags at a time. I'm curious as to what your preference is.

Steve

I "purchased" my pellets a month ago (6 tons, $261.40/ton delivered), but like you am at the mercy of them being delivered sometime in early fall. Also like you, I have been thinking about getting/picking up another ton or two NOW ~ just in case.

end of may i bought my pellets.

Bought mine in April for July delivery $244 delivered, 6 tons.

Puurchased in April, picked up in April, stored in my barn in April. 5 ton @ $163..00/ton. With tax and fuel for pick up I had $174.00/ton.

500 gallons of propane purchased in June @ $2.29/gallon topped of my tank.

Bring on old man winter!

Good luck everyone it's going to get ugly!

I had my 2008-2009 fuel on hand before the 2007-2008 heating season ended. Found some good deals locally and jumped on them. It helps to have a tandem axle trailer and truck that can tow 8000 lbs.....

Just put 2 ton in my garage this week.$225 a ton local guy here in town gets 2 tractor trailer loads for a bunch of people so its only 2 miles from house and right next to my job so i load them up after work and they r in my garage waiting for winter.also trying to find a place that has a fire place insert pelets stove, thats turning into a project by its self.im nervous about an october delievery.well enjoy the warm weather while it lasts.

Placed my order mid April for a June delivery that never happened.

Pelletsales.com called me today to let me know my supply will be here on Tuesday
afternoon.

The smartest thing to do is actually to buy in early spring.
That's usually when the prices are the best and the supply is highest.

I bought my pellets before I bought my stove, have three tons in the shed and may pick up one more. I traveled to another state to pick up my Harmon P68 because they had it in stock. I am all set, what a feeling!

I ordered in early May and received then a week later. I have 3 tons of New england and 1/2 ton of Turman's in my garage. I will try an get another half a ton this weekend,if they have any available.

I bought 3 ton last month and in the garage, son- in-law bought only 1 ton and now is on a waiting list. Sam’s club in Bangor is selling Pennington for $205 a ton, have to get there early or will be out be by 8am.

I have all of 2008/2009 heating season and 3/4 of 2009/2010 sitting in my basement 6 1/2 tons . Bought all in April/May , plus 29 bags left over from 2007/2008 .

This year is going to be crazy so anyone who waits until
it gets cold or even just before the Fall is either going to
find they can't get pellets, or the cost is going to be way high.

3 1/2 ton sitting in my basement - purchased them in April

2 tons two weeks ago, stove installed, our winters here in Va are not so bad so figured a couple of tons would be a good starting point. Hauled them 1 ton at a time with a toyota pickup and a medium sized trailer splitting them up, it was a workout in one day. Hamers at 231 a ton and maybe 15 in gas. Lowes here was charging 280+ a ton for last years pellets. I figured I did OK
Good luck all

I ordered and paid for 5 tons of pellets a few weeks ago at $260/ton at Agway and they're being delivered this week or next. I called Agway today and was told they have a price increase and pellets are now $280/ton. They said they're still taking orders, if anyone wants pellets. They're hardwood pellets and they're NEWP which I verified with NEWP in Jaffrey. My Harmon P68 was ordered beginning of June and I was present when the dealer called Harman and they accepted my order. I paid 50% of stove up front, a bit nervous from reading all the posts, but I'm not anticipating a problem. Will keep you posted when I hear this week from the dealer what the latest news is from Harman. If anyone hears before I do, can you please post.

Funny, not one person has answeed "As I need them throughout the colder months" even though we all know tehre are a bunch of owners who use this method.
Not sure if the sample population out here is a good representation of your average stove owner. I tend to thnk our "breed" is a bit more proactive than the average person.

I bought mine in middle June and they were delivered one week later, 3 tons @ $260. delivered. Now if I only had a stove to burn them with! LOL I am on a waiting list with a deposit for a Harman XXV, I was told I should get my stove in July.
