HF Splitter Price increase!

Go through your old HF sale catalogs, rip out the page of the splitter you want and bring it to the store. They honor cheaper catalog prices and in my experience they don't care about the sale expiration date.

May depend on the teller or whatever...I tried that ( actually I didnt realize my coupon was expired) and they would not honor it.....it was only 2 days expired....
never know...worth a try for 100 bucks.....

aussieblake i picked up my Huskee 22 ton the other day from TSC and i love it. In one day i split so much wood, which would have normally taken me forever by hand. I used the coupon from the internet that i found. I printed it up and it worked in the store, even though it said " no photocopies". I paid $1025.00 after tax. Great deal. I think you will be more than happy with it. Now i just have to figure out how to get a log cradle for it.

You can also order the log cradle from TSC. When I got my 22 ton a month or so ago I priced them. They told me it was around $30. But they would have to order it.

So how does the 22 ton compaire to the 27 ton? Do you notice any difference?

The differences seemed minimal, especially for $350. The baseplate is 2" shorter in overall length, and and littler narrower too. They are constructed a slightly different, but for my needs it will do fine.

So you gonna take the $350 and go get a new saw??? Hua are ya???

Prices for everything are going up...diesel fuel here is 5 a gallon. I think that's outrageous since it's less time to refine than gasoline.

I am real happy with my HF 22ton. The key components are the best available i.e. Robin engine and haldex pump. The rest of the machine is also heavily built and will last a long time. So far I have not found a piece of wood that could stop it. One thing I did not like is the upside down V on the base plate that is supposed to hold a log when the ram comes down onto it. I drilled, tapped, and screwed a bolt into the base plate just above the V and haven't had any more gripes since. When I bought mine the price was $860 with free shipping so prices are coming up. You won't regret buying this unit.

I’m copying this to multiple threads that talk about the HF splitter as I feel it’s important information - GR

I just got off the phone with Harbor Freight technical support and they gave me a very emphatic message - I was asking about the specs on the hydraulic fluid, as I could not find ANY information on what I should use in the actual manual… The tech support guy I talked with sounded like he knew what he was talking about (much better than some that I have encountered)

He gave two useful items of information - First off, even though the manual says the thing takes 2.5 gallons, it really will take more like 4.5 gallons.

More importantly, and most emphatically he said

DO NOT use DEXRON III or Mercon III ATF

The given reason being that the ATF’s have a solvent in them that does not like the nitrile seals being used in the valve - actually he wasn’t 100% clear on whether it was the seals inside the valve, or the ones at the hose/valve body junctions, but either way, he said that the use of ATF would cause the seals to rapidly get eaten, and cause leaks…

The HF recomended fluid is AW 32 Hydraulic oil - other hydraulics would work, but aren’t as suitable.
