Cord cost

here in the Stamford CT area 1 yr old seasoned split oak is usually $200-$250 cord delivered and dumped. More if you want them to stack it.

finding cord wood seasoned more than 1 year is rough. Although I was able to score 1 more cord of well seasoned oak last week for $180 delivered.

This guy is next door to you (Littleton) and advertises $295/cord seasoned.

That seems reasonable. I was quoted $275 a couple of months ago and I am in the same general area (Natick). It seems everyone has gone up over the past few weeks.

I saw $260 on Craigslist for a GREEN cord. Prices are crazy.

Hey- I used to live in Westford on Bayberry Rd (off Pine Ridge... my ex wife still does). Small world.

I was traveling through the southern tier of NYS this week and I saw a sign advertising green face cords for $45 each, which works out to $135 per full cord. Of course, Norwich NY ain't metro Boston, but it's still dirt cheap by any measure, IMO.

I'm in central CT, and just got 3 cords from 3 different dealers, trying to find who has the best wood for the best price. Two cords of red oak for $180 CSD and one for $190. The $180's were kind of junky, smaller pieces, and large branches, and it didn't stack to a full cord. The $190 cord was very nice large uniform splits and a full cord. I have one more cord coming Sunday for $180, I'll wait and see how that one looks and then give the rest of my business to the winner.

The prices on the boston craiglist vary widely. The most I have seen is 400 per cord and the least is 2-something. I think the market is in a state of flux with some sellers figuring that high oild prices mean they can start asking for 400.

$4.50 for heating oil sounds low down here.
Good thing is, last week I bought a cord of wood for $100.00 already split. Had to pick up myself.
Going to get some more this weekend, next years supply.

Just got the pre-buy price and it was in the $4.50 range.

I buy my wood in log length for less than $20/full cord. Some of it's big rounds over 36" but most is under 24" and a little under 12".
I'll never need the gym ever again :lol:

EForest Where are you? I'm in central CT, and $20/Cord for logs sounds great.

I got 3 face cords delivered last March in western Kentucky for $180, mostly hickory and oak but some light woods too.

I bought 6 corg log length the other month for $600, but I think the prices have gone up. I have cut & split it, now people are offering me $200 cord cut, split, they pick up, green. I will be selling a few cord & trying to line up another load right now. There seems to be a really high demand right now, some wood dealers can't find enough lots to clear.

Try to find some down trees, etc. to cut. Findind wood now is tough, you really need to do in in Jan or Feb, or at least have your name in line with a wood person.---kevin, south east NH

Not to sound like a jerk but I got 16 cord of red oak, beech, and locust for 200 bucks. Up here in Moultonboro. FIND AN OUT OF TOWN LOGGER fuel is so friggin high now no one wants to lug it around so they will dump it for short change . I hear it all the time up here. Hope that helps

Maine wood prices for today. $240. green full cord cut split delivered. dry is $300. tree length $120. mixed beech, maple, ash, oak. I purchased in March for $210. cut split and delivered. sweetheat

WOW - just saw this on craigslist... $440 ?!?!?! and not even delivered...

$440 per cord, pick up. Additional fee for delivery. Smaller quantities available.

I just got a load of log length yellow birch, 15 to 17 cords for $500. That's $33 per cord if it's 15 cord.

I equate that to about $6000 of fuel oil, maybe more come winter. This load gets me 1 year ahead, a second load is coming in the fall to put me 2 years ahead. 3 total.

About the most wood you can get on a tractor-trailer is 10 full cords. A tri-axle will hold around 7.

The thing about yellow birch is that it takes longer to dry than most other hardwoods. There's wintergreen oil in the bark that makes it burn even when dead green, but the wood itself is dense and full of moisture. My rule of thumb is that YB should be cut and air dried for 2 years.

Interesting facts on yellow birch. I have this year's already cut and split since winter. I also have about 5 face in my wife's greenhouse curing. Hopefully that will be really nice and dry by winter.

The load I got was a triaxle. And it was a lovely site seeing it back in the drive. This load is for next winter, 2009/2010/ Hopefully I can get 2 or 3 years ahead over the next 2 years.

I understand overall it's a good firewood, is that correct?
