I just made the leap and purchased a Mt Vernon AE. They will install it the week of August 4th. I also found 3 tons of pellets at Lowes for 325 dollars because they had gone non-stock.

I hope I made the right purchase. Because I had my chance to buy a Harman P68 in charcoal color they had instock but went with the Mt Vernon.

If you think I made the right or wrong choice let me know now while their is a chance of a change.

The reason I went with the Mt Vernon though the dealer is 125 miles north of me is the dealer with the Harman did not seem trustworthy. The guy in the show room could not even get the demo unit to work right. And he called himself a tech.

My home is is approx 2000 sq ft. and I like the fact that it burned 4 types of fuel.

I currently live in a modular home and heat with propane. I do not want a $1200 propane bill this winter because it is a 500 gallon tank and I have to fill it every three months in the winter. So I think it will pay for it self in 3 yrs.

While I agree that the Quadrafire Mount Vernon AE track record may not be what we would expect, it does appear that a lot of the issues have been worked through based on posts in 2008. I had a great deal of concern when reading all of the comments from 2006 and 2007, but I think the opportunity for issues is much less at this time.

Of course, one alternative is you could always order a Harman and wait until 2009.... Pesonally, I like reliable products, and I believe the Mount Vernon has a lot of nice features the Harman Accentra insert doesn't have. For me, I believe I'll be a lot happier with the Mount Vernon in the long run.

I listened and read the issue's with both stoves. So I call the vendor and told them I would not be buying the Mt Vernon AE. They asked why and I told them I could not justify buying from a dealer who would not show you how to operate the stove and the fact they were 140 miles away would make it hard to get service.

So today I went and purchased a Harman P68 that was in stock. All stoves seem to have some issues but Harman seemed to have the least. At least it seems that way by the comment here on the forum.

I really hope I made the right decision because I cut a check and sign the agreement.

Even though I bought the Mount Vernon, I definitely would have gone with a stove that had a proven track record being as far as way as you are from the dealer. Enjoy the Harman and the the fuel savings this winter!

I would have bought the Harman too. Oh wait a minute I do have a Harmon installed already lol. Bring on the cold, I have four tons sitting out in the shed too.

Good call on going more local. With pellet stoves, especially a complex one like the AE you will want someone nearby if you have trouble.

As mentioned above these stove all have their good and bad points. You can't beat a local dealer you know and trust who will want you buisness in the future. I have a newer Mt. Vernon AE. it runs great, haven't had a bit of trouble last winter. Also had the opportunity to buy a Harman and others locally. I knew the owner, the guy that works on them and the biggest plus. I know where they live. Good luck with your stove and enjoy the saving from not burning oil or as much of it.

I purchased one the weekend and the dealer told me that when introduced in 2006/07 they had initial problems. But that they have been resolved and he has not seen problems with the new systems.

There were some software issues with the earliest models. Quad reacted quickly with updates. It's nice that it can be done with the AE.

If I was buying a new pellet stove, the Mt. Vernon would be on the short list.
