I'm new to this site as a member but used its great info while searching for a pellet stove, thanks for all the help and a great site. My problem came today when the stove dealer where I had place an order about two months ago with a down payment for a Harmon P68 pellet stove called to inform me that the shipment that was due this month will not arrive until March. Apparently my dealer and all the other local Harmon dealers received the same notice with no explanation as to why. Not only does this put me in a bind since I already have pellets being delivered with no stove to burn them in but now there is no chance to find another good stove locally with the high demand. The dealers are losing a lot of the prepayments which hurts their business because we will need that money back to pay for the oil we will now have to buy. Does anyone know what Harmons production output is right now and is anyone else having this problem?

Sorry to hear that this happened to you. Unfortunately, you are not alone as stoves are getting so hard to find in some parts of New England. Your dealer should have never taken your order and promised delivery unless he was absolutely sure.

If I were in your situation, I'd be making a lot of long distant phone calls until I found someone somewhere who had the stove I wanted (or something similar). The savings using a pellet stove would make it worth my while to drive a couple hundred miles if I had to.

I hope you're able to work something out!

Steve

I got a P68 but if I could not have got the P68 and I was in your situation I would go to Lowes or Home Depot and by one of the Englanders. I am pretty sure they have them in stock in Auburn Maine at Lowes but not sure about Home Depot.

Now that I have had some time to calm down I will start the stove search once again. It was a big let down yesterday as all the preparations had been made for the stove arrival this month and the thought that this coming winter would not be so hard financially by saving on oil. Now my concern is that these stove manufacturers are cranking out these stoves so fast that the quality is being sacrificed to meet the demand. Pellets are still somewhat available because we have a couple mills nearby but you still have to get on a list from the sellers. There also is a shortage of firewood supply here in Maine as the demand is so high, not only by wood stove users but the paper and pulp mills are buying up all the logs they can get because the high fuel prices are hurting the logging industry and the mills don't want to be caught short of log supply this winter. This is going to be a interesting winter as a lot of poor and elderly people struggle to heat their homes, I see my bank is already offering low interest home heating oil loans. Anyway once again its back to the stores and making lots of phone calls in search of a pellet stove, I'll keep you posted on what I find out there.

I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. I was in the same situation as you, I had a deposit on a Harman stove that I wasn't even sure if I was going to get one. I ordered 3 tons of pellets and had them delivered. I just found out yesterday when I called my dealer about my stove and they said they have my stove there with my name on it, they were waiting to call me for an install date. I guess I am one of the lucky ones, but I did start shopping for my stove late in May and put a deposit on a Harman the first week in June, I was going to try to get another stove if I couldn't get a Harman. I was going to try to get an Englander from Home Depot or Lowes, or check out some Hardware stores. Good luck and don't give up, I am sure you can find one, or keep the order for your Harman and get what you want in March.

Firestarter, I'm in Lamoine and received the exact same phone call that you did. I had a P61A coming that was ordered in May and was scheduled for an August 27th installation. I also have 4 tons of pellets being delivered from another source. We've now gone from being ahead of curve by ordering early to having to get back in line as the fall rush for stoves approaches. I had done my research and was excited about my choice of the Harmon. What a bum deal.
