how many of you have a freestanding stove and also have a fireplace in the same room?

title says it all......................been looking 1st at an insert but had some work done on my fireplace years back and at that time i wasnt thinkin.i know have a raised hearth which is small and my dimensions of my fireplace has me limited to certain inserts.ieven if i wanted a freestanding stove sitting on the hearth,its a no go as im limited.came up with the idea of maybe putting in a freestanding stove in the same room of the fireplace,but didnt know if it would look stank or not.probably would be asked alot of questions though...

If this is a big room, it might be ok. My first approach however, would be extending the hearth and putting a freestanding stove in front of the fireplace. That is a nice look when done right. What are the current limits you are up against? If you can post a picture and some dimensions, perhaps we can offer a solution that hasn't been thought about?
 
THANKS,that is one option i have is to extend the hearth out a bit,my hearth currently sticks out 17 inches.after looking at the lopi leyden and the harman accentra,im partial to the harman.i guess its more expensive to have it on the hearth than freestanding somewhere else inthe house as fa as piping goes too.well at least thats what the sales rep had said.
 
Moving to the pellet forum for better answers.

How tall is the chimney and what is the size of the fireplace opening and depth? I'm wondering if an insert maybe could work here?
 
thanks for moving this thread.i do not know how tall chimney is,as far as the height opening of my fireplace it is 24 inches,depth is 36 inches which is from the back of the box to the edge of the hearth.19 inches alone is depth of box with that said as mentioned the 17 inches of hearth sticking out= 36 inches.height openig is 24 inches.as for an insert the dealer is trying to sell me a surround kit too=more $$

I have a fireplace in the same room that we have our freestanding accentra. The room is a living room/dining room combo but not large at all. We had it installed in the corner of our living room.
 
Having a fireplace means there is an available chimney for use with the stove.
I`d make it work .
In my mind a stove and a fireplace (usually useless) in the same room conveys a look of redundancy.
When you walk in a room you would expect heat coming from the fireplace area but I am speaking about how it looks asthetically . I also think it`s a shame to ignore the beauty and expense of that fireplace .
We all want to save money but lets not throw out the baby with the bath water.

We got a hearth pad extension for our brick hearth and put the stove partially on the brick
and partially on the extension. (see photo below)

Sidenote: I know you said you are partial to a harman but unless your dealer has one on
the floor with your name on it I don't think you are going to get one of those this year.

Anyway, Imo going up the fireplace chimney with the piping makes for
a much neater/cleaner installation. It might cost a little more than going
out the wall and up, depending on how tall your chimney is, but the pipe
will be completely concealed inside the chimney and is worth a few more
bucks to me. If you can make this happen this is the way I'd recommend.
