Ashcan on wood porch

I'd like to store my metal ashcan on the porch, which is of course made of wood.

Can someone suggest a good material to place under the can so my house doesn't burn down?
 
Just about anything ceramic, like a paver or a cinder block. Our porch is brick...

concrete pavers, bricks, rocks, thick piece of steel,
you could suspend it with chain, too.
A metal plant stand.
An old PC.
old tire rims

just giving my garage an eyeball for non-flammmable items that might fit.
 
Don't set it on a solid piece of thin masonry...yeah, it's non-combustible, but it's a crappy insulator. Better to put it up on a couple of bricks or something, so there's an air space underneath it. Rick
 
Good advice, thanks. I was thinking about some ceramic tile, but yeah, I was worried it would just get hot itself, and at the least leave a scorch mark of some sort. I think some bricks will do the job.
 
I have our ashcan (10 gal. galvanized trash can) sitting up on a 3-inch cinder block. Works well. The only problem: one evening the can blew over in high winds. None of the ash was hot, but if it had been... Now I incorporate some bricks around the base of the can to provide a more stable cradle. H.

I use one of these. A bit more spendy than a couple of old bricks, but it has a double steel bottom, so it could probably just sit on your deck with no problem. I put mine outside on concrete if it's got hot stuff in it. Rick

Wow Rick, we have one of those from years ago and leave it on our hearth besides the stove. May move it this year as we purchased a vacumn to clean the dust from around the stove.

We didn't pay no where near that price for ours. Wish I had gotten a gross of them now. Age has its benifits. :lol:
