WTF we are always getting hosed here in Maine and New England. We have two pellet mills here in Maine and our pellets are way higher here than the prices in the link.

Good to see. Perhaps our prices will drift back down to the 225 range once the suppliers have proven they can meet the new demand. Unfortunately since there is a perceived shortage in Maine, so for the short term sellers can name their price.

I've paid about the same for pellets for the last 3 heating seasons (ballpark of 230 per ton). I'll be really happy if that trend keeps up and i'm able to swing a decent deal next March-May.

:cheese: In regards to getting hosed here in Maine by the previous poster...I believe its that way in the New England region due to market forces. A lot of people are buying out of nervousness and driving up the cost. It almost appears that a number of people have bought more than they actually need for the winter in some cases!! My thoughts is that the demand will decrease going into Oct as many people will have got their fill of pellets...and supply will increase because producers will shift into overdrive...so there is real potential that costs will go down IMO.....LOL, especially since there isnt enough stoves to go around... :) ..just a thought!!!!

Best regards!

i dont think there is any shortage of stoves in general. just harmons. i talked to aes/magnum the other day and they arent having any problems filling orders. as a matter of fact, i was told that if they had to, they could ramp up production by 300% if necessary.
england stove works doesnt seem to have any problems filling orders either.

Our local stove shop has pellet in. $235 ton pickup only.

Quadrafires are backed up, oh, same company that owns Harmon.

I wandered into the Glen Burnie Ace Hardware last Friday. They had new signs up showing pellets at $219/ton, plus $10 delivery. (And, Ace is not known as the lowest price around.)

I bought a stove and 5 tons of pellets first time out this season, I’m not buying because I’m nervous I bought because I don’t want to spend $5 a gallon on home heating oil. Everything is more expensive in new England than other parts of the country especially Connecticut.

The problem with pellets in Maine is that we are sort of an island, we're at the end of the line literally. With the exception of the pellets made/packaged in ME or NH it is cost prohibitive or one must charge more per ton to get them into Maine in the first place. I think the dealers selling the local products are gouging just a bit based upon what is going on. Once the potato harvest starts I believe we will see a dramatic decrease in the price of pellets because it will be cheaper for manufacturers outside of ME & NH to get their product here since the trucks will have something to leave with (i.e. potatoes).

You got that right...we are at the CUL-DE-SAC of the U.S....of course it beats being at the other end of the pipe line where the Mississippi flows out... :smirk:

you have no idea what a cul-de-sac is until you take a look at the upper peninsula of michigan where a lot of the pellets are made in the midwest region. yet their retail prices are in the $160-$200/ton range. WHY????

We have 3 pellet mills in Maine and we have multiple great brands of pellets made right in Quebec that when shipped come right down route 201 and 95.
It think we are in a great situation compared to other areas

I dont think our situation is that great here in Maine since we are paying almost $100 more per ton than people are paying South and West of us.

If I was paying 100 more a ton, I would travel to the south or west.

Where are people paying 150.00 a ton regularly for premium pellets? I will go get some.

Iowa and Michigan is a pretty far drive from Maine lol. Pellets in the Auburn/Lewiston area are $270. a ton up to over $300. per ton and last I heard Dysarts up in your area has a long waiting list and their prices are going up too last I heard.

I live in Gardiner Maine, and everything around me is reasonable. Not sure why they are charging a premium 20 minutes away? Come to Augusta down route 202 to buy your pellets and save over 50 bucks a ton.
