"The demand isn’t just coming from U.S. consumers. Firms in the United Kingdom are already sourcing wood pellets in Maine, Linkletter said."

Hey!!!!!! Let them get thier own damn pellets!!!

Corinth Pellets is what I have coming in August from South Shore Pellets.. I am sooo glad to hear they are producing...

Ah, the stories continue:
"It costs two and a half times more to heat a house with oil rather than pellets," he said."

and another duzy
"In 10 years, I think 40 [percent] to 50 percent of Maine homes will be heated with pellets," he said."

And maybe the worst yet:
"Those 300 tons of waste wood stored outside the mill would have gone to landfills, he said. "This process allows us to create something valuable out of waste."

Huh? I thought wood "waste" was useful for many things and fetched a good price on the market........

I have yet to buy my pellets, and right now I can't get any because of hording.

That's nothing new, they are also going to China.

Seems Corinth is putting out major pellets, but noen are hitting the streets. Weird. I am pretty much set for the winter now, but wanted to get some of these to burn.

Every place that carries them is stating end of August at the earliest. Are they all going overseas?

Dunno, but i've heard rumor that pellet manufacturers will sit on pellets till closer to heating season to get a higher price for them.

In 90 days all the mills will be operating at 100% or more, and all the people panicking will have all their pellets. There will be a surplus at this point...............

At $350. I won't necessarily buy them as I only burn at most 350 gallons of #2 home heating oil. If the price of oil keeps going down I will fill my tank before it goes back up again, there for I can wait for pellet prices drop down below $300. a ton. Benefits of two heating systems, plus a passive air solar panel I am building to reduce cost even more. Now if I was able to get me a ton before the short fall I would be happier to be ahead of the curve, now I will adopt a just wait and see approach. But I admire your capelistic aproch.

Sorry to hear there is a shortage of pellets in NH. Around Augusta, Maine pellets are available at about the same prices as last season.

For the record, i was just being a smarty-pants. I've had no problem finding pellets up here near exit 20 though. Penningtons are under $250 / ton. I'm in line for a ton of NE Wood Pellets from my stove dealer to try also. I'm definitely going to have all my pellets before September though !!

It looks like the great pellet shortage of 2008 isn't nearly as bad as people were fearing.

You are right. We just needed to get the panicking first timers loaded up with pellets so they stop affecting the market as much as they have.

Who knows? My guess is an over-supply, since everyone is likely to get stocked up, the plants will be geared up....if winter does not come early, the pellets will start backing up. But it's money in the bank to some degree, as long as the makers and dealers have space (which is always somewhat limited)

But that is just a wild guess.....

True, there are only so many people that are going to burn pellets in Maine and eventually they will be stocked up. At this rate it will be the end of August....

Just drove by my local Agway (Eliot) and for the first time in the 3 years i've lived here they decided to stock wood pellets. I initially saw it on the sign and called as soon as I got home.
They are premium Boreal pellets from Canada and they have 25 tons in stock.
325.00 per ton plus 100 for delivery!!
The guy told me that 9 tons were "spoken for" so I guess people are buying at that price point. Glad I secured my whole supply already.

It is definitely looking like there is going to be plenty of supply...but it will be interesting to see what happens to prices. I really hope the mills keep cranking them out since that would likely flood the market (to an extent)...and one would hope that prices would come back under 300.

I haven't seen a ton over 279.00 in the Augusta area. Most everything is 239-250. Top quality brands from Quebec are 279.00 due to the high diesel prices. Actual cost from the manufactorer hasn't changed, but freight charges have gone up considerably.

Unproven I guess, first year production and seen no winter. I will wait for the burn tests to come in before I buy any.

Local building supply store in Standish is selling Athens (unproven in my opinion) for 284.50 per ton delivered.

I just got my 6 tons today from Pelletsales.com which were delivered for them by Down East Turf.

That's outrageous. I have been seeing those for 235.00 in my area.

Heard from a couple stove shops that burned a few bags that ash content compares to Corinth. I have about a ton ready to try out.

Those small places like that will RAISE the prices no matter what. A guy at work just receieved his pellets from Home Depot. Canadian pellets...not sure the name.....224.00 a ton. Our local Aubuchon here is getting 280.00 a ton....nearly the same as last winter price they were getting. I think come august theres gonna be a glut in the market. Prices will be stable or below. :) People panic buying is fruitless.

Corinth is going 24/7. you can see the list of dealers that have their product on their web site. My father in law knows Ken well.....they all have breakfast every sunday at the local restaraunt. Pellets will be just fine in Maine. the ONLY thing that will drive the increase in transportation cost and the big box stores can absorb it more than the little guys. I see nothing but good picture for pellets in the future. :)

Uh, with that $325.00 per ton and $100.00 for delivery, do you get night alone with Jessica Simpson or Shania Twain?
