Hi

First post.

I am considering purchasing and installing a pellet stove sometime this summer. I am in the initial research phase looking at different stoves.

I am also researching where I can purchase pellets. I live in Brunswick. Any fellow Mainers nearby?? Where do you folks buy them?
I see vendors like pellets direct, pellet sales but wondered if there is anyone local who you could buy 4 ton or so and have them delivered for a reasonable fee. I have scene them at Lowes and Home Depot etc.

Oh, if you have them delivered, how does that work?? Do they lower full pallets onto your driveway or do you have to lump 50 40-lb
bags per pallet by hand off someones truck??

I have had things(washer machine and mason pipe staging) delivered motor freight but the stuff wasnt that heavy.

I suppose I could pick up in My Durango or Jeep but would have to make multiple trips and wonder if the gas costs and time would out weigh a delivery charge. Visited one local stove shop and asked about pellet supply and the guy didnt have a clue besides Lowes. You would think they would interface with some pellet suppliers. Anyhow I wrote this shop off since he indicated he had only been selling pellet stoves(Enviro and Vistaflame) for the last two years but did sell them about 10 years ago.

I guestimate I would need about 6 ton to heat my 2100 sq ft colonial based on 750 gallon avg oil consumption per year for heat.

Any feed back would be appreciated.

Note I may have other questions on stove models as i do more research. Site is a good source on info, glad I found it.

Welcome !! Because of location , i purchase mine at Tractor Supply in Skowhegan. I live in Embden so i have no choice . But if i had to, i would drive to Waterville cause the 4 other places in Skow are way too expensive , like Agway,True-Value & 2 other hardware-lumber places . I really wish there was a small affordable independent i could buy from but alas none to be found round me . Good luck , Muss Ps. your right, great site & great people

thanks for the reply, Downeast building supply is down the street from me, I jsut e-mailed them asking if they carried them. I may stop by and ask in person tomorrow.

Paris Farmers Union - Auburn location is probably closest to you. They will be taking bulk orders for delivery in August, according to the manager at the Portland location. This year they carried Energex & Comfy Cozy & some Corinth. they are hoping to have more Corinth next year.
Frost n Flame in Windham & Gorham will also deliver large amounts. I believe they carry energex.

I haven't found Lowe's or HD in my area to be very reliable in terms of pellet supply. The Biddeford Lowes is the only one I know of that has had steady supply. Sam's Club had pellets until mid-March, but I wasn't crazy about the brand. (PA-Pellets) If you do find a good place for pickup, I found I can fit a ton in my durango with the seats down. Paris helps you load them on their end.

I am heating a 1900 sq ft colonial with a well located Enviro Empress & I'd say your estimate is about right. I used about 6 bags short of a ton each month for January & February. I figure about 4 tons for November to March, & two tons for the rest of the year.

I am looking at a Harman PB105 boiler from the dealer in Newport, ME. Anyone have any experience with them as far as service and installment?
Also, the unit weighs about 900 lbs and I need to get into the basement. I do not have outside access to the basement so I need to get it down the stairs or remove the stairs and use some type of lift. Anyone have any suggestions?
 
I load strapped mine, placed it onto a pallet and slowly let tension off the strap, also, they can be broken down into multiple parts, sl the heaviest is about 400 lbs.

hi muss,
i talked to the guys at the new athens mill, and they say they will sell direct to the public but i have to call back in a couple of weeks for definate pricing and when they will be ready to deal with the general public.

the guy says they will have bulk and 1 ton pallets .when i get more info i will post for all who live close to our area.i am only about 20-25 minutes from this mill.

About the pellet mill in atherns. I know they will only sell to the people from the atherns area. No one else they have dealers that are doing that for them.
The dealers for them are Springbook oil, Dysarts, AJ Robbins and O'Hara Ice and i believe Sprague oil

I also am i Brunswick. I bought mine from AHS in Freeport and they're wonderful in customer service. I bought from them because they were the lowest price on the Corinth Maine pellets, which is the brand I wanted.

May I ask who AHS is???

I bought 5 tons from O'hara Ice but am interested in other local people too. Of course I am waiting for a stove so the pellets may last a while :)
