Not to fret, consider it a part of the learning curve.

Ever meet a person that built their house right the first time, bought the right computer, etc?

Get a person talking about their former ride. After they brag on it awhile ask them:

"So, why did you get rid of it?"

You might want to ask that regular driver when is a good time to order before the hard wood slabs are gone.

What with rocketing ng, oil, electric costs, I'm sure your gonna get competition for da good stuff. ;-)

One pound of softwood puts out the same BTU's as one pound of hardwood, but a cord of hardwood weighs more than a cord of soft wood. Live and learn. Think of it as a productive day for you as you learned something new.

Gopher wood :lol: When you load the stove give it 10 minutes and gopher some more.

Burntime I take it that what your are refering to is that when you fill your stove with fresh wood, you should open the vent(s) and leave the door slightly open until you have a good blaze going. I think i understand this principle of wood burning, but some of our new friends might not understand this principle. So i am just elucidating on this simple burning technique. It's how it's done newguys.

Don't give it a 2nd thought Karl. It's no big deal and the price was right... so you burn the soft wood when you up and about your house and save the hardwood for nighttime. Back in the early 80's I was putting a haul road through my swamp and cut about 40 willows that my wife burned during the day time for 3 years while staying home raising the kids. That's wood 99 out of 100 people wouldn't take if it was given to them but my wife loved it...it was light to the heft and put out plenty of heat...

...it's all good.

Wife and I have burned almost only aspen in the living room wood stove for 18 years - heats the whole 1500 sq ft house. 4-5 cords per year. Comes from our woods, couldn't be happier. Heating bill winter of 2007-2008: $200.00.
