We bought a pellet stove last Saturday, and the dealer included 2 tons of pellets in with the deal. Today my son and I went to pick up our pellets.

While we were at the store I inquired about buying more pellets. The salesman said "no problem", we have 27 tons left. This was at 1:00 this afternoon. We left the store and took 1 ton of pellets home. We returned about two hours later for our 2nd ton. I told the salesman that I wanted to purchase 3 more tons of pellets, and would bring a trailer in the morning to pick them up. He said that he needed to see if they had 3 tons left to sell. He came back a few minutes later and told us that 3 tons was all that they had left until the next delivery came in on Tuesday (4 truck loads)). I said do what, 2 hours ago you had 27 tons for sale you guys must be selling them fast uh?. He told me yea a lot of people are stocking up on them now while they can get them. Then he said starting Monday morning there will be a 2 ton limit per week, and the limit may be lowered to 1 ton if the 4 truck loads sell out fast. We ended up paying $230.oo per ton. I sure am glad that we will have 5 tons stacked in the old wood shed by tomorrow afternoon for the upcoming winter.

This store sold 5 pellet stoves this afternoon while we were there (the stoves were in stock as well).

The salesman said pellet stoves and pellets are selling like hotcakes this year. I told him yea it does seem so, guess you will be eating steak tonight, while my son and I will be having hot-dogs :) .

That's a real good price you got there. Feel lucky you don't live in my area (SE CT). Pellets a bit scarce around here too.

Yeah, the local Agways and True Value hardwares are all around that price--crazy! I have some Corinth coming at 275/ton from a place close to me (pelletsdelivered.com) but I have to pay delivery since my truck only holds about a 1/2 ton+. Getting a trailer for next spring so I can at least pick up a ton at a time.

Getting that price. WOW $210 a ton here but going up on the 15th.

I was over on the coal forum last night and it seems the same issues are happening with anthracite coal . Makes you wonder if current infrastructure is capable of handling the demand for alternative energy sources.

280 a ton at lowes last week.they sold the trailer before it came in.

I paid 268 a ton here in pricey eastern Long Island back in June. Too bad I dont have the room...I could have resold a whole bunch. The cheapest I can find here now is $349 PLUS delivery!

$259 a ton a the Southern States yuppie-fied former real feed stores in Northern Virgina yesterday when I stopped in for deer corn.

Pellets by the way are priced there at well under half the price for a bag of corn.

how big of house are you heating? 5 tons in maryland sounds like alot.

This is our first pellet stove. We will be heating a 1500 sq ft home. We plan to use the pellet stove as our only source of heat this winter.

Five tons may be more than we will need. We heard many people say that the local dealers ran out of pellets last year, "very high" prices were placed on pellets that could be found.

A lot of people recommended to have at least 4 tons on hand.

The little woman likes to stay warm during the winter, as long as she is warm she is happy :) .

I would rather have some pellets left over at the end of the heating season instead of running out when we need them.
