They made a few changes to the new Biomass 40 compared to the Biomax 40

Peep hole in combustion chamber
Manual lever to open chimney flap
Air adjustment in front
Vertical handles

It appears to be the new model. I can't wait to get started on it. Thanks Zenon!


I took off the pallet, lowered my forks and put it on my slab expecting to man handle it like a refrigerator....Forget it, wow this thing is heavy, I'm glad I don't have to slide it down a bulkhead like other guys.

GREAT lookin unit (and backhoe) can't wait to hear your feed back ..Is there storage in the equasion, does the controler offer new desireable features..Is the owners manual any better than the EKO's manual..Good luck on the install good people are here to help.

Rob - Who is your insurance carrier? I'm considering a Biomax and would want to know I can get appropriate coverage with this type of unit. From what I understand, Biomax's certifications aren't as developed yet as some of the other brands (i.e. EKO, Tarm, Econoburn).

I was looking at that boiler also. My problem is any boiler installed in Connecticut must be UL approved or similar. Alot of the boilers like biomax,New Yorker are not. I guess CT is the only state that ul approval is necessary. I talked to the state building inspector and he said its in the code.

OK, I just called my insurance company. I have a wood stove on my policy right now, I told her I removing my wood stove and was upgrading to an indoor boiler. she asked the model so she could update my file. Then I asked about the UL approval question. She replied did you buy it in a store or did you build it? I said It is European and i bought it in a store. then she said your all set no issues here. She said too bad it's not an outdoor boiler we would give you a 5% discount because the risk of co2 and fire is slimmer. WOW. They may be more lenient up here because everyone heats with wood here it is the way of life.

Perhaps the NH fire marshal's office would have a problem with it. There isn't any permits of kind of required in my town. And I am covered under my insurance. no worries here. But the cord caps and Dayton motor are UL approved.

Rob - so what is the insurance company?

Regarding permits, I contacted my County inspector's office and was told the County has no jurisdiction over heating. No permit was necessary and, therefore, anyone could install the appliance. As a result, my only issue is making sure my insuance carrier will approve the Biomax and, if not, I can get a carrier that will.
 
In Connecticut we are not allowed to think for ourselves the state does it for us. I know that boiler has alot of European testing I wonder if that would satisfy the inspectors.

You did say earlier supplyguy UL approval or similar. Put in a call to Zenon at New Horizons Corp, He may help you with the similar certification end.

I use Co-operative Insurance Companies. http://www.co-opinsurance.com/ they do NH and Vermont..Sorry.

I have Co-op insurance also, and they've been OK with my current/ prior wood furnace, a Sam Daniels (warm air) which is built like a tank but not UL rated
 
Thank thing looks great! It looks a lot like the EKO 40 I picked up a few weeks ago. Sadly, I spent 6 hours unloading and moving it since I didn't have any way to lift it. Very nice looking setup you have there. Good luck with your install....

In your PM you sent me you said you spoke to the the owner at New Horizons, He is also the designer of this unit. He contributed to the eko design too. The Biomass has a built in draft inducer that works well with my over sized chimney (6X8). They all work pretty much the same but I always trusted European technology. if you are in Pittsburg NH stop on by. PM me for phone #

I killed myself rolling the thing in with pipes and boards 40 feet from where you see the tractor, thank goodness I didn't have to go down a flight of stairs. Good luck with your unit! Keep us posted.
 
I couldn't resist, RJP. Here is how a real man, I mean, sissy, moves a 1400lb boiler! That's right....a 46" decked Cub Cadet can pull stumps, plow your driveway, build a house and pull an EKO 40 on a dolly. I plan to keep updating this site once I get started. Hopefully you'll do the same...I won't hijack your thread anymore either.....

RJP--thanks for the reply. 50/50 chance I'll be passing thru. About ready to drive to W.V. and meet the designer and bring it home.(16 hours and i could be there) :) I'll contact you if I do. Thank You very much for sharing your info. I'm located in prime snowmobiling country, so if you're up this way, give me a pm/call.


Had a few good conversations with the polish dude. I think this unit will fit my deal. Probably won't put in water/thermal storage for a while('til spring) I think the set up will work good for the winter demand months. Just a little nervous about service 10 yrs from now. Where will they be. But quite frankly..where will any business be? Just thinking...........
