We ordered a Kennebec today from a local dealer and after getting home they called the house and said they forgot the $75 charge for the fan install. I'm a little annoyed at the after-the-fact charge, but I'm also a little skeptical about the charge itself. For those of you out there with Kennebecs...did your dealers hit you up for this specific charge? Our dealer's explanation was that "it's like an erector set."

Thanks!

Huh erector set this up side your head jus kidding fan sets are usually add ons

Don`t sweat it.. Way too many dealers charge as much as $250 for the fan as an option. And FYI even many more charge an extra $200 for the doors for a fireplace insert? as if the damn insert is any good without them

As much as you paid for that insert, optional blower and installation? Jabbing you to bolt on the blower is insane.

Tell them you took the fan off, and reinstalled it yourself. Call it even ;)

The fan was included with the unit and the overall cost. It's not an optional fan. But he's hitting me up for $75 to install the (standard) fan. Maybe it's just me, or that I haven't dealt with an insert/fan install before, but it seems a bit over the top. Is it just me? If so...go ahead and tell me...I can handle it. :)

that is bs i am a jotul dealer and he has to do nothing to the fan. who is installing the stove?

You are kidding right? Right?

It's a local dealer (StoveWorks in Medford, NJ). The installation charges only cover 15' of liner. I got him to bump it up to 19' for the same price, but that still won't cover me. Should I just purchase the unit and look for another installer? I had a free-standing stove installed a couple years ago and really liked that dealer and their installers...but they don't sell Jotuls.

I am on the floor laughing. I do believe that shop used to belong to the webmaster here.

Yeah. I had forgotten that they started including the blower a year or more ago.

The fan install is a 8 to 10 minute job.
I did a Kennebec install this June, all by myself.

If you have no hands-on skill whatsoever, then pay the piper. Otherwise, decline the charge and attach the fan yourself.

The dealer is trying to recoup some of their missed profit as an afterthought. I'd stay away from this dealer, and let all of my friends know about this.

Cheers!

I have the rockland and the blower was included. It wasn't an option ....there was no charge.

No, he is not kidding on the price for doors on the inserts. I went with the standard black door on the insert thinking it was included in the price of the stove....come to find out it was an additional $130 or so. Dealers seem to charge what they want with the price of oil so high.

If you have the ability to follow VERY simple printed instructions and own a couple of screwdrivers and a crescent wrench or pair of pliers than DO NOT pay $75 to have the fan installed. Have the installer leave it in the box, do it yourself. Its a 10 - 15 minute job for someone who has never done it.

We had the Kennebec installed a few weeks ago and the fan was included on the unit/install price. We paid $600 for the liner and insert installation. No extra charges were added beyond the unit price and install price.

Good luck.
