Lower Michigan
Well the pellet shortage has officially hit Michigan, I know the New England states have already been experiencing this problem. Went to pick up my 4 tons this morning, and they said they were not taking any more orders, not knowing when they will get another shipment. They have pre sold 2000 tons to people, and no pellets. So glad I have mine. Can resort to corn if I need to. Good luck everyone

I called the local Lowes two weeks ago and was told they don't even have a ton price and were rationing sales. Tractor Supply seemed to have a good supply but I grabbed 3 tons (@ $239 ) after getting skittish reading of problems. I'll call Lowes (both local stores) this week and try to talk to a manager. Also will call the farm co-op next county down. I still want to get another ton. Things are not looking good. If you can afford to get your entire seasons supply now, I wouldn't hesitate.

From the way things are looking, you should go back to Tractor Supply and grab as many tons as you think you'll need + 1 extra.

Funny though, the TSC here in SE New York is charging the exact same price.....I'm not sure if that's good or bad....

What brand pellets did they sell you? The TSC here said their going to be Energex.

If I get one more ton I'll be good. Four ton lasted thru April last season and I had a feed problem that gobbled pellets for several days. I made sure I got the three before sons went back to college. Tractor has Somerset Premium hardwood brand from KY. The new Lowes is only a mile from home and TSC is 7. I had an entire ton in my 98 Explorer last weekend when the kids weren't around, that was a ride. I liked the Green brand that Lowes had last year, they're made in Garrards Fort PA only about 50 miles from here but haven't seen them this year.

My father just bought a quadrafire pellet stove and has been buying his pellets from Agway & Lowes in Orange County New York. Not sure how their supply is.

i bought all my pellets at tractor supply in the beginning of august as soon as i saw them i picked up 6 ton 3 for me and 3 for my parents $239.00 a ton they went through 4 trailer loads in a month lowes got theirs in and want $290.00 i don't see how they can justify that much of an increase looks like they are just taking advantage $50.00 increase seems like alot to me when ts stayed the same as last year

How do you guys "pick up" your pellets? Do you have a trailer and tow home 1 ton at a time?

I have a delivery of 3 tons coming in Sept. but after that I'll be getting one of those trailers at TS that holds like 2100 pounds.

We pick up 4 tons at a time on our bobcat trailer, and then pick them off with the forks on the bobcat. Dont know what people do who dont have heavy duty trailers and equipment to unload them. BTW, TSC in my area were selling the Lignectics (SP) brand pellets, thats what I just picked up. Had to get them on pre order, none available now.

well i have a ford ranger i can get 25 bags in. 2 trips per ton my dad has a dodge that can handle 1 ton and a buddy has a dodge that can handle 2 ton

I have a Mazda B2500 (like a ford ranger). It can haul half a ton per trip easily. I feel guilty for saying this but I have 4 or 5 reliable sources within a 15 mile radius. All also have competitive prices. I have moved up to 2 tons alone. It takes a little time but the little truck has great AC like a meat locker so I get to cool off between loads.

Don't feel guilty.... you just happen to get lucky w/ your location. That's a nice problem to have.

N/E Ohio is still in the $220 a ton range.

The situation here (east central NY) is this: My local Agway sends out a pre-order flier every July, with
a slightly lower pre-order price which goes up in August. This year they didn't send it out, but didn't notify
their customers either, so when I called in mid-July asking where the flier was, they said "oh, we decided not
to send it out this year" (they had just moved to a bigger store next door and were too busy). They kindly
offered to put me on a waiting list, but not the "first" waiting list, which was already full.

I finally got pellets last week when another truck came in. Barefoot at $250/ton.
We have a Tractor Supply which is currently out, but is doing a pre-order for the fall
at around $270-$275/ton, and a stove shop which is selling Boreals and PA Pellets
for around the same price.

LarmanNY keep calling Lowes to see when they expect their delivery. I called them every morning and they were very good about letting me know. If you go in when they get the delivery, you can pay and pick up at a later date. They will hold them for a few days. I paid $298 last week, but that is better than $350. I am in central Suffolk County.

Boy, am I glad I put a 1/2 down payment pre-order (w/ delivery in Sept) w/ the local Tractor Supply here for an "insurance" ton of Energex at $239.50/ton back in July.....I haven't seen or heard of anything near that price since, in this part of NY.

About 30 min east of Pittsburgh, local TSC had tons @ $239, local Agway was $230. Found a little mom and pop with Greene Gold pellets for $215. Lowes wanted $279/ton. No tax in PA. Picked up 2 more ton from the mom and pop, used my father-in-laws truck and my brother-in-laws truck to pick them up. Had the 2 ton stacked in the basement in about 20 minutes.

Great deal! BTW, how do you guys FIND these things????? LOL

Did you "just happen to stumble across them", or did they advertise?

Just called around one day while I was slow at work. The mom and pop place was actually the same store I bought my pipe from when I installed my stove last winter. They were the cheapest in my area for the pipe as well. They did mention when I called that they were expecting the price to go up soon, so I made a trip the following day to see them.
