Hey all,

This may be a long shot, but what the heck?

Can anyone recommend a chimeny sweep in Rockland County, NY? Or near enough to service this area? We are in zip code 10901.

I don't want to just throw darts at the Yellow Pages.... And I've been fairly appalled by my conversations with a couple of local wood stove retailers, so much so that I don't have much confidence in any sweeps they might recommend (or installers, for that matter).

Thanks.

Catskill,

Thank you for the recommendation.

I spoke with a woman there who was very helpful, but she stated that, due to travel time, she would have to charge almost triple what I could get it done locally for. While she was able to make a tentative recommendation for a sweep somewhat closer to me, I am still looking for suggestions from others, if anyone has any.

But Catskill, I do appreciate it, as I learned a lot from my conversation with her.

Thanks again,

TruePatriot

budman,

Thank you for the recommendation.

I will contact Hi-Tor.

It's great being able to get a local recommendation on such a major site--thanks again.

Catskill,

No, unfortunately, I haven't approached them yet. I want to get my basement wired up for the new deep freeze we're getting, first, so I can move a bunch of detritus away from the area where the cleanouts are, in the basement, before I have the guy come over. The deep freeze was a last minute idea, to take advantage of my friends' selling of grass-fed beef, from up near the Candadian border, and I've been caught up in one delay after another with that (admittedly not large) project. Freezer should be in late this week, and if so, I will call Hi Tor next week, and be able to report back then.

Are you in my general area (Rockland/Bergen County)? If so, I'm all ears as to any other qualified sweeps/installers you know of.

Thanks for your interest. We'll hopefully talk more soon.

ATB,

TruePatriot

I'm in Bergen County and I've been researching some of the hearth professionals in the area. From what I can tell (from my reaseach only) they seem like a competent outfit (NFI certs etc.). The real proof is some real world feed back. Please PM me with any comments if you do chose to use them. Thanks.

You got it.

Slightly of topic but I used the same company I have been using for a few years. My wife was home and she said it was a pretty young guy and a girl. I came home after they left, one of the clips that holds the baffle plate was not there anymore. I phoned them and the girl told me she left it on top of the baffle plate. Sure enough, it was there. I asked why it was there and she said she found it there! As far as I know, it was in its normal place when I cleaned the ashes in the spring and I don't see how it could have move up there by itself. Now I have to find a new company to do my chimney.

I have never dealt with them for major purchases but the people at Mcnamara's in Pearl River and Fireplace By Design in Suffern seem to be pretty helpful.

The guy in Sparkill (County Woodstove) is somewhat nasty.

There is also a place called the chimney sweep in orange county. Not sure if they travel that far.

Hi, I am Tedd Cuttitta From Hi-tor Chimney Sweeps And relining Systems Inc. I just ran across this post while doing Some normal internt checking for the keywords " chimney sweep in rockland county. I thank you for the Reccommendation And I hopr that "true patriot" Called and was Satisfied with our company.
But more to the point I am familar with many Compent Chimney sweeps across this Country and a few in canada. Bill Bickel for example IS an excellent Sweep and one who I would let work in my home on a "no BId Basis".
I am willing to answer any question Regarding Reccommedations in your area for Either Chimney sweeps or woodstove dealers

Thank again for the reccommendation

Welcome Ted to Hearth.com nice to see you on board with us. :cheese:

Try calling Mcnamara’s in Pearl River, I brought my stove from them and they have been very helpful with all my questions. ( I ask a lot of questions) I sent some friends over to their store and they all were impressed with their costumer service. Everyone I sent brought their stoves from them. And we all live about 50 miles north of the store. We all were shopping for a stove through the summer. I bet I hit about six stores myself.
