Got tired of watching the old tube TV- so I lit it up today.

My 2.5 cu.ft firebox insert in located in the rec-room which is 3ft below grade and it was only 57F down there this morning. And the big screen is also down there (which I haven`t watched hardly at all since June). So I fired up the Bear. Loaded it with 7 pieces of cedar-6x8 and about 2inch thickness, stacked tight at 9 this morning. Well, to my surprise at 2 this afternoon there was still a good bed of coals.

Operation went as follows-500f and the blower kicks in-shut it all the way down and it cruises at 350 until 2 pm. with no smoke from the chimney. This is amazing!! Now I`m thinking that when I start to burn seriously this winter and throw 3 nice size pieces of softwood in there it should easily burn for 8 hours. Crap!! It`s only end of August and already I`m getting excited.

Of course I am no longer in the rec-room watching the big screen because it is 86 degrees down there :cheese:

Someone on an earlier post this year wondered if stacking that flat stuff would prolong the burn? Answer is yes it does.

Well, I was expecting a pic of a CRT TV on fire

Too funny must be a bad night for tv

Sonny-
Rule is: if you heat the stove to watch the TV- You must stay in the room, regardless if it get to 90, and you have to strip down to your skivies ! :ahhh:
Now that youv'e done lit er up- the tempature will probably drop in the lower 48-damm U.

This is disappointing - I want to see a tube TV on fire! Maybe I'll light mine up.

I too was disappointed to not see a picture of an old tube TV on fire after reading the title. Please dont exite us like that.

Trust me, you dont want to see a TV on fire. I made a terrible error in judgement earlier this summer and finally got rid of the 54" TV that sat in my garage for over a year. Dad gave it to me over a year ago and said "it shouldn't be hard to fix". That should've tipped me off right there. While enjoying a nice bonfire with the family I remembered that big ole TV sitting in the garage and threw it in the back of the pickup and backed it right up to the bonfire. It went in pretty easy. What happened next was downright sinister and probably illegal in every state except Ky and that third world country that BB lives in. Anyway a very black plume rose up about a hundred feet and then went straight across the horizon as far as the eye could see and I mean BLACK smoke. Trust me, I am not proud of this, I probably added more crap to the atmosphere than i want to think about. How I didn't end up explaing what happened to the police chief or fire chief I'll never know. It went on for about a half hour and we were restricted to watching the fire from the deck about 150' away because of the intense heat.

Yes, I agree, I couldn't find anything good on TV so.... I figured I'd put something I enjoy on it. I can't wait to hear my wife, when she gets home and sees it...

Ahh, the press board cabinet caught on like wild fire, then the plastic of the PCB's incinerated, the the 3 Cathode Ray Tubes decided to let you know that they were unhappy with the heat. Then the glass & mirrors let loose & exploded.

Some PTV's deserve this fate :coolsmirk:

Man, its stupid stuff like that (burning plastic and other toxic garbarge) that give wood burning a bad name and encourage retarded groups to promote the banning of all burning. I'm sure your neighbors were real thrilled about the toxic black cloud. And how many hours did you spend cleaning up the mess after? Well at least you know how dumb it was and anyone that reads this probably won't do something similar...

Actually I thought I'd give anyone who had never made a mistake in their life a good reason to come on here and berate me in a public forum.

Read the above in the voice of Jack Webb

here's another good Webb quote

"You're pretty high and far out. What kind of kick are you on, son?"

.

I think everybody has done something foolish in their life (including myself) that we later realize we should not have. I wonder though, however, if you burned a small TV in one of the new " clean burning" woodstoves would they clean up the black smoke and burn it clean?

Hey,hey, it`s not my fault, I`m always trying to stir in the ashcan, but half of you don`t even dabble in that rabble of a forum. So , I thought --why not get some of you ticked off right here :)

Oh, and a special thanks to the pyro`s for their awesome contributions--totally awesome.!!

Reminds me, if I can`t really get my burn piles going with just plain old diesel, well, I do have a couple of old spare tires to light up on a foggy and rainy day when most won`t notice. Whoops, hope I haven`t done gone and stirred again.?? :-/
