I am planning to install my new Harman Accentra insert myself withing the next week and would like to know if anyone out there has done this for themselves. I have never installed a stove by myself, but I consider myself fairly handy. I purchased the Harman Zero Clearance cabinet, so I feel that it is safe to install the unit into my frame fireplace "bump-out" that my gas insert sat in. My main concern is obviously getting the venting right. I'd appreciate recommendations on what brands of pipe are good, or at least easy to work with. Any other tricks or helpful hints would also be appreciated.

Thanks!

i used 3" cci excel pellet pipe for my quadrafire castile free standing stove
compared to other pipe systems out there i think it's far better.
it's more money but you wont be replacing it in 3 or 4 years

We used simpson duravent in 2005. It was easy to work
with and had no problems. Now they have the duravent pro
but there are also several other high quality brands
available. Do a forum search for pellet vent or pellet pipe
and you should find the answers you are looking for.

Best tip I can offer you is to read and understand your
stove installation manual before you even buy any pipe.
That way you have a good handle on what you will need
to buy and how to do it.

I am also installing my Acentra insert within the next month or so and my main concern is getting the vent past the damper in the fireplace. The dealer said that is not a problem so we shall see. My venting will go thru the flu to the top with a chimney cap attached to the 3 fluted fireplace. I will be watching this thread Tom so GOOD LUCK!!

I had my Harmon insert installed two months ago. I'm in the process of doing an energy audit on my home so that I can minimize my heat loss. I noticed that there are air infiltration around the mantel trim and the base of the unit. I know I can caulk the perimeter of the mantel trim with a high temperature caulk but I would like some suggestions as to how to seal the base of the unit. I'm assuming that the material needs to be able to sustain the high heat. Thanks
