Question for Huskee 22 ton splitter owners

Friend of mine who I cut / split with is purchasing this splitter. His only concern is with the concave main beam / cradle and whether or not alot of debris collects in the grooves and causes problems or jams.......Otherwise, from what I have read on the previous posts, folks are really happy with this splitter. Any owners of this model have an opinoin on that concern ? Thanks............Paul

I've got one, bought it earlier this year. It's a great splitter. Dirt and bark does build up in the I-beam, you just have to remove it as you go. I imagine any splitter with this design has the same problem/situation. It doesn't hamper things though. I thought I read on here that someone mentioned using spray type vegetable oil to lubricate the I-beam. I haven't tried it myself and don't know if it's necessary. I don't recall reading it in the manual.

I agree with having to clean the beam as you go. If the debris is wet it clumps more than dry. I bought one last year and put a cradle on it this year from ebay and works fine.

If I split more than a cord in horizontal I have to clean it out with a mallet and screwdriver. It's not as much of a problem in vertical. It's never affected the ram but I find it rather annoying. Incidentally the Speeco brand splitters (not Huskee made by Speeco for TSC) have holes in the I-beam at the foot that address the problem.
 
Like others I clean mine after so many splits. I always though have a square split that I put on the end to act as a stop to completely split what ever round I am going through ( this is very important with stringy elm which I seem to have a lot of). This helps to not pack the bark debris in that channel.
