Another Inspection Question

Question..(i did search the forums and didnt find an exact answer)

We got our insert installed, and we need to extend the hearth. We want to get a hearth pad (not carpet) that'll rest on the rug in front of the stove. The hearth steps down on to the floor of the living room. We want to get an extender that we can put away when the burning season is over. The few people we've talked to says that'll pass inspection and that the extension doesn't have to be permanent. Does anyone here (especially those that live in CT) know this to be true as well?

Kev - there are no guarentees with anything. You do the best you can to ensure youre safe and you do everything possible to ensure that...the chance that an ember rolls off the hearth and then backwards under the lip of the hearth to where the hearth mat meets the step up to the hearth are minimal. I'd think you could open the door of your stove and have sparks from the wood - shoot out way past the hearth....How are you protecting yourself from that?

Came with no strips. The hearth is a good 8 inches off the floor. From the glass of the stove to the edge of the hearth is 12 inches. The hearth extender sits on the floor in front of the step up to the hearth. I needed an additional 8 inches for code...i added 24 with the extender. Again - there is a lip on the hearth and the extender goes up against it. Once I start my 1st breakin fire I'll post a pic.
