breckwell p23 wattage

I don't have one but everyone I know loves this thing.

depends on what auger motor you have but you have a 1 rpm
on start up it pulls 657 watts and on normal operation it pulls 358 max
based on a 110 watts per amp

That's incredible. My Lennox Profile pulls almost 2 orders of magnitude more (736 watts startup for 6 minutes & 362 running). Does that include auger, room & combustion blowers? Gotta be super-high efficiency motors. Wonder if I could replace mine with those motors.

Can you scare up the part # (model, mfg or something) for the blower motors? The 7 watt startup & 4 watt running #s are less than a night light. Even the Thelins which I thought were the most efficient on the market are rated for 2amps (240 Watts). What do they use for an ignitor that only uses 3 watts? I could use that in a camp stove project - I didn't think you could get 3 watts to heat anything up enough to burn. I looked all over Breckwell's website but couldn't find any of this information.

Okay, I did some more investigation 'cause this 7 watts/4 watts thing sounded too good to be true, and it is. According to Breckwell (http://www.breckwell.com/faqs_DT.asp?FAQ_ID=4) you've mixed up watts and amps here. The stove takes 7 AMPS (actually 7.47 AMPS) which translates to 823 WATTS during startup and 4.75AMPS or 523 WATTS running with the 4RPM auger motor.

The 1RPM auger models consume 6.27 AMPS or 691 WATTS during startup and 3.55 AMPS or 391 WATTS during normal operation.

That's more like it. Pretty much in line with other stove makers and leaves the Thelins as the premier power misers. It also means that the electricity cost is a 100 times what the 7watt/4watt estimate would be and any battery backup life would be 100 times less than estimated using those numbers.

If you've got the 4RPM auger, it's 523 watts/hr running (or .5KWH per hour) which if you ran it flat out 24x7 is 376KWH for the month or $70 at CT's 18.5 cents/KWH. If you've got the 1RPM auger (which I think is the P23) then it's 391 watts/hr (.4KWH per hour running) which running flat out 24x7 is 282KWH for the month or $52 of electric each month.

That will be offset by the electric your furnace won't be using so it would be less on your monthly bill. You also won't run it flat out - worst months maybe 18 hrs on low and 8 hours on high or roughly 130 watts * 16 hrs + 391 watts * 8 hrs or 5.2KWH/day (about 156KWH/mo or about $29 in electric) in the coldest months. If your electric rates are lower than the outrageously expensive CT rates, you'll do better.

500 watts ,ridiculous... just a never ending string of bs that says pellet stoves are an energy joke.. Im sorry as hell I bought one. This industry isnt any better than the used car business.

500 watts isn't constant - it's the max running rate. Most people won't run it on max 24x7 so the power consumption is a lot less (BTW, my oil furnace burner & circulator pump are 414 watts and my plasma HDTV is over 500...PC is 250 + more for the monitor)...I'm not saying the stove is an electric sipper but it's certainly not a guzzler compared to some of the other stuff I have running.

But if you're convinced pellet stoves are a joke and intend to sell it I'd suggest doing it now during the frenzy so you get top $. If you wait until the spring you may find yourself behind the stack of stoves the manufacturers are ramping up production on and if you're right about them being a joke, lots of other folks will be selling too. Take advantage of your early insight and get out now when you can get max dollars.
