I've found a Century wood stove for sale in PA model# FW3000010 heats around 2000sqft but cant find no websites or reviews. All that come up is Vermont Castings sites. I also checked out the Lowes website and saw the Englander for $799.00 The guy is sellin the Century for $700.00,,,,,what would you guys do??? Spend gas money to drive and get the Century...or just go pick up Englander from Lowes. which would be a better stove overall??

I wouldn`t even consider the Century, Vermont Castings is the company that won`t honour warranty`s for stoves bought previous to 2008. Any company that leaves their customers out to dry would not even be on my radar. Go with the Englander.

I think my model of Century is the same just an insert. I have never had any problems with it but if I had to do it over again I would pick the Englander I look at them and they just seem like a better quality product, and from the reviews on this site everyone is happy with theres.

Englander and don't look back. Great stove for the money. I cant complain at all . My englander 13 throws great heat!! :)

Bought an Englander a few weeks back, doing my third ever burn with her as I type this and I'm loving it so far.

This is going to be my 3rd winter with my Englander 13NCP and I can tell you it's a great little stove. I agree the Century's look kinda cheap. I bought mine at Home Depot and the boys who loaded it in my pickup tipped it over and some bricks broke and also chipped the glass. I called Englander and a nice guy picked up on the 3rd ring and had bricks and new glass in the mail that day. Great customer service!

Love my Englander 13. That's all I can say.

Sonny has VC let you down on your warrenty . What problems have you had
I bought my stove in June they were sold out had to wait 2 weeks . I asked my dealer about my stove , She said we have been selling them for 30
years we are the DEALER , If you have a problem lets us know , VC has been bought out before

Heres my dellema.....I have a deposit on a Qudra Fire 1100 with the total price with installation is $3300.00 I know these stoves pay for themselves in a couple years but im tryin to save anyway i can...I just went to Lowes to see the Englander 50-snc 13lc....it looks kinda small even though it says it can heat 1800 sqft. and its kinda short. but forthe money its grabbing my eye and i can sub out the install and probably save $1000.00 any advice????

Did you mean a Quad 2100? I believe the firebox on the 13-NC is larger than the firebox on the Quadrafire 2100, 1.8 cu ft vs 1.4 cu ft.. How large a space are you trying to heat? How well insulated is it?

Look at the Englander model rated to heat 2200 sq. feet. At Home Depot its the 30-nch. At your Lowe's are they selling the Timber Ridge Line? If so I believe it's the 50-TNC30. Should only cost you a couple of hundred more, I bought mine for $999 (through home depot).

Century (Vermont castings) is in between owners and may not even be made any longer.
Go with Englander.

Someone is still making parts for the Century. A buddy of mine had a baffle go bad in his so he called and for a $180 he could get one. He made one at work instead but the parts at least are still available.

I have a ranch style house about 1000 sqft.... and the Qudra Fire is the 1100 millenum.... i just put a deposit down this past saturday....then i went to do some research and found this great website bu it sent me for a loop with all the different options i can.....and now i found a Vogelzang Mountaineer for $500....Lots of options goin nuts lol

Not to doubt you, but the only Quad 1100 I remember was an early pellet insert. Quad's smallest stove is the 2100 Millennium. As far as other stoves, you are going from so, so to cheaper. I'd stick with the Englander if you are trying to get the better stove overall.

What to you guys recomend as far as where to purchase one....i've been looking and theres not much up here in northeast.....especially NY...the Lowes by me have a very light stock on them,,,theres was none in 2 stores i went to...maybe website that selld the Englander 30??.. Thanx for all the help

I bought a medium-sized Century that is rated to heat 1800 sf--it's got a 2 cf firebox. I had no problem ordering a blower kit for it, even though the brands that had been owned by CFM are in transition, having been bought this year by a US company. Installing the stove myself, with the optional blower kit and new pipe, my total cost was very reasonable--just under $900. (I'm not too worried about parts--I don't expect the new owners to run the brand names of VC and Dutchwest in to the ground by failing to provide parts for stoves bought before this year and the model I have is almost identical to one of the VC's. Whether they'll honor warranties for units sold before 2008, well I can understand why they might might say they'll handle those claims on a case-by-case basis.) I'm impressed with the performance of the new style stoves--I think you'd like either the Century or England stove. This new stove really seems to start putting heat out more quickly than my old monster. It also is using less wood so far, granted we're in shoulder season. Good luck. I don't think you'll necessarily be unhappy with a more moderately priced stove, just make sure it's rated to heat the size area you expect it to.

Lowes has a pretty decent price for this time of year, but as you've noticed, they are selling fast.

OK, I'm back. I passed by and saw this conversation and I think some clarification is needed. When Monessen bought some of the assets of CFM the purchase agreement specifically excluded any of the designs and rights to produce for plate steel stoves. The new owners of VC ain't gonna be making Century or Dutchwest plate steel stoves or parts anytime real soon. Like never, unless they go back to the well.

Buy a Century stove right now and on the way home you need to drop off a case of good beer at your nearest welding shop. Or iron works in the case of baffles. And the baffle is really the only exposure you have with the stoves and my local iron works will make one of them in a half hour for a hundred bucks if you drag the remains of the old one in for a pattern.
