Whitfield profile 30

I bought the profile 30 insert last summer, it worked great all fall,winter, and spring. Looking foward to the next heating season.

I have a Profile 30 that dates from the late 90's. It seems to be well built, parts are expensive, the factory offers little tech support, there are no servicing dealers within 100+ miles, and it is very finicky if not kept clean. If it is a great price go for it, but if you are paying retail you might wait until somebody else on the forums gives you a rave review on their model.

FYI, the flame sensor is a Honeywell photocell. The dealers want $120.00+ for it. Digikey sells the exact same part for $16.00. I paid $140.00 or so an igniter. I found an OEM company that sells an equivalent unit for less than $20.00. I understand dealers need to make a profit on the parts they sell, but a factor of ten seems excessive!

Where is that? I'd pick one up for a spare if I can get it for that price. The only ones I've found were OEM or the "super ignitors".

Here's the link to the threaded cartridge heaters. When I called the company I gave them a physical description of what I needed. Although we never determined a part number, they said any of the models similar to what I needed were less than $20.00.

Any link for the photocells?

We purchased a Whitfield profile 30 free standing in fall of 2006. Weren't told by store that it needed a surge protecter. I guess they really like it when people have to pay 300.00 for a new circuit board, ours' was struck by lightening this summer, and have purchased a new circuit board. It keeps immediately blowing the 5 AMP fuse the minute we attempt to turn it on, we were trying to figure out the problem when we found a website under Google: Whitfield pellet stove repair. www.butkus.org/whitfield pellet stove.htm. lots of good information for troubleshooting. Under "new circuit board" it said that circuit board may be defective, ours is. We also have had problems adjusting the damper for a cleaner burn, bad pellets can definately be a problem. He have a tall chimney, and can't burn on 1 (low), it really soots up the house. Not as clean as a gas fireplace insert, but I think it is cheaper, if you're willing to put some cleaning effort into it. It does a good job of heating our 2600 sq ft house.
