so it cooled down and was very moist out tonight so i decided to fire up the stove for the heck of it. actually i couldn't wait to start burning again..lol. like a little kid i know.. :).

when the stove got to about 200* it smelled like someone was ironing. i assume it was the moisture coming from the soapstone or maybe the walls and stuff surrounding the stove. had a real small fire in it the other day and really didn't notice it. anyway the smell is gone now and its hot as hell in here..lol.

Yeah doing a little of that myself tonight. In the fifties and damp. Supposed to not get over mid sixties tomorrow so I bit the split as it were and lit the little stove in the basement office off to waft a little heat up to the other two floors overnight.

Well, that and to watch it burn. :)

In a month I will be wishing for Spring.

lol.. isn't that the truth..

I started my insert today. Temp in the house was 67 and 63 outside and she gets chilled here lately. Used the new Super Cedar fire starters and it worked great. Used only 1/2 of one to get things going.

I thought I was going to be burning tonight, but the house is retaining heat pretty well. I'll probably be burning tomorrow night though.

I've been burning the last couple of mornings to take the chill off. Night times, between using the oven and the dryer, the house
has held the heat. Wood heat just feels good.

67 in the house is a heat wave for me- LOL. The wife and I don't see eye to eye on comfortable temperature :)
We seem to have the same problem hey ;-) My woman had a throw on the other night and it was 73 in the house.

lol, we still have the AC running at night. Trust me though I can't wait for the cooler weather to run the stove.

It works well for us. It's usually 73ish in the main part of the house, 83ish in the room with the stove and the bedrooms stay nice and cool for sleeping. It's pretty easy to find a place in the house that has a temp you like.

yea thats what its like here too. i love the bedroom cooler then the rest of the house. and the living room where the stove is is nice and warm.. love it.

Came home from work yesterday and saw smoke coming out of the chimney. My wife had stayed home with our son, and since it was cool and rainy had lit a fire. A nice sight and a nice feeling.

Oh abj, that smell was probably just dust burning off. Our first fire produced the same effect.

I still use the AC myself. I like it about 60 in the house and my wife likes it 80. At 72 I am sweating and she is all bundled up in a sweater and hat. We have not lit a fire yet needless to say but I like the cold weather and look forward to it. Funny how different people have different internal thermostats. I guess its all body type. I have more muscle mass from being a gymnast in high school and college and she is lean and skinny. I guess that why some people are sparking them up and others are running the AC.

I had our first fire of the year last evening as well. It was 43 out and 64 inside when I got home from work. Lit a small fire with a few pieces of Kindling. After that burnt down, I just couldn't resist throwing a small split or two on top of the coal bed. That jumped our inside temps up to 75. Then, I had to open a few windows and fend off some "I told you so" looks coming from the wife. We slept great and it was 40 outside this morning and still 69 inside and NO propane used. :)

I'm glad this site exists. I have my Harman TL300 fired up for the first time this year. This is only my second season with it and the dust buring smell is pretty bad. Glad to see this is already been asked.

This is also my fisrt picture I have posted so hopefully it turns out. I took it from my camera phone so only 2 megapixles.

I am in St. Louis and the local temp is currently 62 with an overnight low of 44.

I kind of envy that in a way. I just checked my local forecast. I might get to burn once in the next 10-days.

It gets down to 46 tonight so if I am going to play it will be in the morning, but the high will be about 78. After that it is upper 70's and lows around 60.

It is really nice weather, but waiting to play with the new stove is like waiting on Christmas except you don't know what day it will be on. :coolhmm:

Ya Bonz... That is a vary cool (HOT) looking hearth.
I have had about 3 days of burning. Wife Likes it hot...and I like her hot. LOL

well, I held out till October. so now it is time to light a fire this weekend. Dipping into the low 30's at night every night..an evening fire will be niiiiiiiiicccccccccceeeee!
