What is the purpose of the hopper grate in the Empress? I am assuming to keep your fingers out of the auger and getting them mangled? It makes it a pain in the ass to have to take the entire lid off the hopper, rip the grate out vacume it out and re assemble!

Also it tends to have several cups worth of pellets be prevented from sliding down.

So is it safe to leave this stupid thing out? I promise i won't stick my finger in the auger while the the stove is running.

Thanks
Tim

Im gonna take mine out the next cleaning and warn the cat about it..:)(maybe)

will this come out the hopper or do I need to take the stove apart?

I can try it once my pellet level goes down.

New UL safety rules require a hopper lid kill switch or the grate
Enviro chose the grate. The plus it is easy to remove the grate if you wish. i did on my omega because larger pellets would bridge up and pellets would not fall through the grate.

the switch would need to be bypassed.

Remove the screws around the top section of the hopper, and it will lift right off. You can then lift the grate right out.
