I finally fired the new PE Pacific insert this morning after looking at it since the install was done last spring. This was the first time I have ever started a woodstove (lots of fireplace time though). The fire stared easily and the temp on the first floor of the house rose 6 degrees in the first hour. I used a total of 4 logs and a few pieces of kindling, big difference from the fireplace. The smell from the new stove ws not as bad as I expected. Very satisfied so far!

Glad its working out!I may fire mine up this weekend also.Like you i got mine very late in the season and have only used it 4 times.Lets see a pic when you have a chance!im planning on a pic of it blazing soon if i can get a good enough pic :)

I noticed the smell on mine last spring as I got it hotter. The first couple small fires didn't smell too much, but the first bigger one smelled up the house.

I can still remember my first time, after all these years.

it is a good feeling.. I checked my weather out. It looks like at least 10 days before I have to start using my stove any.

I'm guessing you got in the low forties tonight. Six degrees in an hour on four splits isn't bad. Wait until you fill that stove up.

Installing my Jotul Rockland tomorrow. Can't wait to fire her up! Hope it's better than my other first time, that was only 30 seconds :)
