Stove inspection/permit...Is it required?

I had my stove (summers heat 55-shp22) inspected today by the Fire Department. Passed w/ flying colors!
The lieutenant who came said he could tell I did my homework because the manual was all beat up and broken in! LOL

I didnt have to get a permit, but have heard others had to.

As far as the inspection that was voluntary...not required.

Plus my homeowners insurance didnt go up!!

Glad you got it done, and everything is 100% GO!

Yes, some places require a permit....my town did. Finished my install today, and will be calling the town inspector Monday to schedule the inspection. Then, send a copy of the signed permit to my insurance co., and I'm done! I don't think the insurance rates will change...spoke to them and that was the consensus.

i needed a permit here. i never called to tell them it was installed though. they finally called me. came out and checked it out and signed off on it. the inspector really liked the fact that i had a infrared thermometer. i shot all around the stove for him (it was lit ofcourse) and he was very happy with the readings.

I live in Lisbon, and my code guy said just follow the manual. Thats it. No permit, no checking it out, nothing. I know some towns do, but as far as the state goes, they leave it up to each town.

I know my township requires a permit then an inspection. My insurance company said my insurance would go up $200.00 a year. Will have to wait and see if it does or not.

I had to get a permit here in Brewer. Then the fire lieutenant came out and did the inspection, signed the permit and i was good to go. Lt. told me that he was doing alot of inspections right now , I guess people have had enough with oil.

yup, the guy here said the same. Very busy for them right now. Lots of people getting away from oil.

Needed no permit here if professionally installed but only for insurance purposes. Insurance wants the inspection if installed by homeowner but do not need inspection if installed professionally.

I called my insurance company, USAA, today and they orginally said another $40 a year.They now,differnet person as always said they didn't have to be notified unless it increases the vale of the home more then $4k (I think that was the number)
Town probably wants a permit thou,will see.

IMO, if you do not notify your insurance company, and provide some sort of proof of professional installation or a town inspection, if your home ever burned down, the insurance company would immediately look for reasons to NOT pay the claim....they would be licking their chops when they found a un-inspected, un-reported pellet stove in the home.

My 2 cents.

I asked her that same question. She said no,as long as it was installed as manufacture and code if applicble required.NO problem !
Their only concern was if I wanted to raise the value of the home replacement cost.
