I am in the process of figuring out where to put the chimney for our wood stove. One option is to put the chimney on the corner of the house. The roof is 12/12 and requires 12' of chimney. The problem I see is cleaning the chimney - it would have to come down. Does anyone have experience in cleaning a chimney such as this?

Most stoves are going to want more than 12' of pipe on them, particularly when the smoke path includes a couple 90 deg bends and the chimney is cold (exterior). Can you set it up to go straight up inside the house? If not, can you set it up so that you can clean it from the bottom up with an exterior cleanout tee?
I think OP means that with 10 - 2 - 3 (or whatever) rule, he will need around 12' of chimney after it clears the shingles. If the room is a standard 8' room, he is looking at at least 20' of total chimney.

12/12 is a steep roof. The stack will need to be double-braced at the 5 and 10 ft levels. Cleaning will be a challenge. At my age I know I wouldn't try it without a cherry picker

I have the same problem. My installer told me to remove the top section of the pipe (about 4' long) which is reachable from the roof, and clean down from there. I think it would be easier to unscrew the interior chimney from where it attaches to the stove, and slide it up a bit to insert the brush and clean from down to up.

I also have a 12/12 chimney. Seeing as we have to clean it ourselves [we get snowed in] and that roof is dangerous to us old folks I decided to do a double support of the chimney inside so I can take it apart to clean in safety and ease. When the chimney goes through the ceiling I have it supported by a roof mount this is on blocks. The next roof support is when the chimney goes through the roof. All I have to do is remove the bands and remove the 5' of chimney between the 2 supports by sliding the blocks out. Then I can clean up and down. All this is enclosed in its own small room. This is only doable if you have telescoping DW. Also to pull it up into place and ease it down I have a chain hoist. The other requirement is to have a class A that does not twist into lock.
