I have a qudrafire 3100 insert with a flex liner that runs up the masonry chimney that is on the side of the house. My first question is am I losing a great deal of heat up the chimney when I burn? By up the chimney I mean hot air from the surface of the stove not exhaust gases in the flex liner. Secondly is there a way that I should insulate between liner and the chimney tiles to keep excess heat from rising up the chimney? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

2nd on the block off plate.

But the real question is: Does the smoke swirl while going up the flex liner?

I think it is called a register plate in the UK and it will stop to much heat being wasted.....what does "Does the smoke swirl while going up the flex liner" mean?

Do you have a block off plate installed?

I do not know. For someone who is not too sure is this just a piece of sheet metal that blocks the air going up the chimney?
