Free wood burns the best :)

I love the stuff. Burns hot, clean and fairly long. Eric Johnson on the Forum burns nothing else in his wood boiler. He used to burn 15 cords a year of it in his old boiler.

I've been researching Beech, and it burns great.Very hard to split though.BTU's approx. = to the Oaks.

Anyone know if Beech gives off reddish chips/dust to a sawing?

One of my favorites. 75% of my supply for this season is beech. It burns very clean as mentioned earlier.

What they said - and the bark is not a pain in the ass in the processing ...

Another vote here for beech. Dries fast, burns great. The only problem with it is that it's about impossible to split straight, apparently, and those twisty splits are hard as heck to stack.
