Whenever my wife begins to say something about my firewood and forum habits, I point to her multiple spinning wheels and the amount of time she spends on her spinning bulletin board.

Spinning, weaving, knitting & quilting. Next thing you know, I'm gonna be building pens and going out to feed Alpacas and some sheep from Wales or someplace. When do I get to work on my old Ford truck? :-/ Rick

If you guys think that this site is addictive-- you should try to keep yourself fomr sliding down the slippery slope of collecting old machinery --> www.owwm.com

Wait until you get to the hand tools!

Matt and whose newest piece of 'arn is from the 50's.

They think I'm crazy until I show them my NG bill.

My wife thinks I crossed the line on Sunday afternoon when I plunked a lawn chair in front of my inventory of wood and cracked a beer while she was inside watching the game...

They sometimes roll their eyes. I do suspect, however, that they suspect, that I am at least 25% readier than completely unprepared.

I did this :)

I wish there was an "I miss my little buddy Chan the Shi Tzu, so my wife brought home this little wild black kitten for me from a litter she found in a woodpile" forum.....Now you know I'm nuts.

The one I always get is " You cant believe everything you read on the internet"

.

yup i love that line!! those people have no idea how to do it right..

If I mention it to people they say "There are forums for that?"
"Duh, there are forums for everything!"

The BF asks me whenever I am on the computer if I am talking to my wood burner BF's again...
Haha

When do I get to work on my old Ford truck?

All that kinda stuff comes after you take care of the animals, 'tis the rule

The SO always says when he pulls into the driveway "Boy, you have ALOT of wood" :)

Well all my freinds think Iam crazy anyway, I enjoy seeing how other people do things, from different parts of the country and world, and it gives you ideas. So I say keep on looking brother and keep on posting....

My wife always asks who am I chatting with now? I tell her it's not a chat room, its a forum. Every time I am about to make a purchase, I find a forum where I will learn the most about the product. I do this for my cars, hottub, lawn tracker and all electronics. You can't get this informaiton from real world experiance anywhere but on a forum. Priceless!

Yup. I'm active on a number of other forums, too.
When I told my wife I found a fireplace forum to ask some questions about the f/p we're looking at and she didn't say a thing. Just went

Buy a wood turning lathe. If you already own one you know where I'm coming from. Hearth.com will make it look like things are improving to SWMBO.

Of all my idiosyncracies, this is the one my wife enjoys the most. Yeah, she has to put up with other unfinished projects, the strange machinery that shows up unannounced, various noises, smells, intermittent power outages, and the unexplained disappearance of various funds. At least she's WARM!

I look at it this way: she LET me buy the stove! It's half her fault! ;-)

Chris

Kinda, my G/F thought I was crazy spending so much time prepping wood and stuff. She is a cold person, on the cool nights she MAKES me light a fire. She loves it and was telling her friends what a cool thing it is to have......

This is the same girl who thought the stove was gonna hurt the children, burn down the house and so on.

Now thats a slippery slope. Last year I started a user collection of 1902-1907 Bailey hand planes. I'm about half done, I had to quit buying for a while since I don't fit in the dog house very well. ;-P

When I found this forum my girlfriend said, ANOTHER ONE? I told her..honey..I only read two, and moderate one.

titantalk.com for my truck.

And, www.ifish.net for my intense fishing addiction, they even talked me into being a mod! *shudder*

. . . Anyone else get these looks and comments?!?

Yup . . . everytime from my wife when I start any sentence off with, "Guess what I learned today while checking out hearth.com . . ."

Fortunately, not everyone is prejudiced against this addiction . . . my dad for example is actually quite interested in knowing what I have learned and read about various stoves . . . I think it's more of a "guy thing." :)
it is such a satisfying feeling to pull a tarp over the fruits of your labors. we take pride :)

Neighbors think I am nuts when they see me with my coffee walking around my wood piles three times a week.

You too, huh? Its part of my morning routine to stroll past the piles w/ coffee, often forgetting to wear pants, sniffing the fresh splits to see how quickly the tannins are drying out (as if one day makes any kind of noticeable difference), etc.
