Thermometer for insert???

i put my magnetic thermometer on my Regency above the door handle on the front of the stove. not much room there but it is on the outside wall of the fire box so its the closest place i can get to the fire. when i first got the thermometer i placed it atop the stove; but this is much cooler than the front as the blower air comes under the top plate.

There is absolutely no place to put a thermometer on my insert. The enamel prevents a magnet from sticking, and the top of the stove isn't part of the firebox. That being said, I don't worry about it much. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out if I am over firing.

Therometer....... I have a Galloean Therometer that is 36" tall. Last Saturday I was showing it to our 8 year old and exsplaining how it works.Well after about twenty min. I had to relate it to the Therometer that Mom keeps in the medicine cabinet. He looked at the 36" glass tube and exclaimed "I sure am glad Mom has the one in the Cabinet"

I have mine above the hinges on the right side of the door.

Seems there are as many answers as there are models.

I have a Quadrafire 4100-I which has a "bay window" construction with a heavy, cast iron I guess, plate on the top of the "bay". My insert in new, and hasn't yet seen its first fire, but I think I'll try the magnetic attach thermometer on this plate.
