162.50 a cord all hardwood (2 for 325)

Bought it green about 6-7 months ago.

Now its ready to go!

If you stack it right, and put it in a good spot you can season fast.

Find out where the wood's been since he split it this spring. Odds are high it was just dumped in a big pile, which means the stuff that was on the outside layer should be pretty good if it was in the open and sun, the stuff underneath not so much. (Been there, done that!) If you can get wood split longer ago and actually stacked in sun and wind, I'd pay the $225. But if it were me (older and wiser than I was last year!) I'd want to eyeball it first.

I'm new to all this, but around my area I'm seeing prices of $140 - $200 a cord, some is delivered, some is picked up, all is seasoned and split hardwood, oak, cherry and ash. I have acess to free wood, but I need to cut and split it. I don't have a chain saw or even an axe. Was working with the neighbor some using his gear, but I think for the price as I mentioned above, I'm just going to get it ready to go...

$180-$225 a cord for "Seasoned" wood this year. Was $150 - $180 last year. There are a lot of hardwood mills in the area so availability is not a problem (firewood is a by-product, tree tops, culls)

On a separate note, I have never been able to purchase wood that is ready to burn. It always seems it was split the day before it arrives. "Air dried 2 years" usually just means the log sat on the ground for 13 months.

O.K- I can see that the board will not let me post anything from kijiji- so if you want proof of prices in Calgary please search fire wood in Calgary and you will find that Birch is $600 and Pine is listed at $400. Yeah, I can get it cheaper (usually pine is + / - $300.) I was going to post the link only because I figure that people will believe that I am exaggerating

$225 to $240 per cord for split green hardwood, delivered within about a ten mile radius. The wood is in 15 to 18 inch stove wood lengths. Not stacked.

Worth repeating: make your wood scrounging a year-round hobby IF you don't want to buy firewood. It's fun, profitable, and Mr. Goodbody is free.
Many of us are fortunate to have woodlots to harvest forever with good management.

Here's how to get firewood if you don't have woodland to cut:
1. Go where land is being developed, ask for green wood. Many arborists and contractors want the wood removed.
2. Get to know arborists: they may also want to save themselves cleanup work.
3. Neighbors who may want some trees taken down--away from their home.
4. Power line and city/town crews often leave wood by the road. But ask first.
5. Check out ideas here and other sites.
6. Offer to help harvest in exchange for a cut ( sic ) of the action.

Get to know how to cut safely: takedown skills, PPE, maintenance. Chainsaws are in the top 10 dangerous tool jobs--get training.

You'd be surprised how much wood adds up in trunk loads over a year. Scrounging is honorable, but you can't start in September for this winter's wood.

Down here in Southern New Jersey it's apparently much cheaper. I had 2 full split Cords delivered but, not stacked for $175 a Cord. He even gave us slightly more so we got lucky. Then I called someone else and they delivered 2 more split Cords for $125 a Cord. Both deliveries were all split Oak and both had been seasoned well over a year. I did however get slightly cheated on the quantity on the $125 a Cord purchase but, just slightly. After all, it was only $125 a Cord.
