Whitfield Auger

Hello,

I have a Whitfield Advantage II. The auger is starting to make a "click" every time the auger turns, With the hopper empty I can move the auger up and down 1/8"-1/4" ,the motor is tight. I think I may have a bad bushing. I did a search, came up with nothing. Is there a way to repair?

Harmans have a bearing, and it comes installed on a new auger. don't know about whitfields.

It's a bushing in the Whitfield not a bearing. It's fairly easy to replace. www.hearthtools.com is the spot for the parts. Rod is a good guy and is willing to take a moment for his customers.

The bearings on a whitfield don't go bad, I've never had to replace them. It could be the auger motor, I've seen a fix on a site . You add a nylon washer that cost 6 cents. Don't know the site, but do a search on whitfield and you will find it.

The site I referenced mentions the nylon washer, "No feed with motor running (my $.05 fix)
I purchased a nylon spacer from Lowes. ½” X 1” X .194”. Cut with hack saw to 1/8” thick. Sanded smooth. ½” X 1/8” X .194”. Worked fine. Stove back up and running."

Where did you place the bushing? My Auger/Motor is now running like it is jammed. I pulled off the auger motor, and cleaned out the auger. There is quite a bit of "slop" in the auger. Is this normal? 1/8" 1/4" up and down, vertically, not side to side.
When I put the motor back on, it runs fine with no pellets, but as soon as I fill the hopper. It quits turning.

Any Ideas?

What kind of stove, make/model?

I fixed it. What a difference for only .25 cents! The auger is silent, and nice and smooh.
I found the Site online, about how to repair Whitfield stoves. I just replaced the bushing in the auger motor.
