Harman xxv dirty glass

I'm on about my 5th burn and I am noticing the same thing on my XXV.

Soot on the glass is going to happen. The amount of it you get and how fast it builds up will depend on your stove settings, and also your pellets. I usually clean my glass whenever I shut down the stove for a good cleaning. I have found that just wiping it down with water on a paper towel works good for me. If that doesn't do the trick, try some windex type of product.

Its not normal to get a black window with that unit. Check to make sure the air intake flap is opening freely.

The air intake flapper can be accessed by removing the lower right panel from the back of the stove. This is the lower right when facing the back of the stove. There is actually a bar that runs the length of the stove across the bottom that has to be removed as well. Once in there you will see a circular metal opening with an s-load of black caulk around it. There a flapper valve in that opening.

The flapper valve should swing freely by touching it.

You can also run the stove with this section opened up so that you can see the flapper valve get opened by the vacuum behind it.

It is very easy to access and check.

No log set for the Harman XXV.

My glass will get dirty on the low burn quickly but not with black soot and only part of the glass. Was it draft tested and is the flame a lazy flame?

i have about 3 bags burned so far and only have a minimum amount of ash on the glass. something does not sound right if yours is as you say....

How tight is the home? could be slightly starving for combustion air

Another glass cleaning question. I'm getting some brown soot deposited on the glass on my Accentra Insert. My question is - when the stove is burning very low, is it safe to open the door and give the glass a quick swipe to try and clean it up a bit. It looks kind of unsightly. Thanks

I would not dare clean the glass while its hot.
Risk getting burned OR cracking the glass which is too expensive.

you never open a hot pellet stove, as the blowers are still going and cols could be thrown from the stove on to you

I have a VF 100 insert and my glass gets very sooty. I wipe down the glass every time I clean it. 2 -3 days.

My glass gets a brownish haze on it after a few days but never black.
I am no pro but my first thought was it is starving for air.

you never open a hot pellet stove, as the blowers are still going and cols could be thrown from the stove on to you

Not on a harman anyway. I opened mine while running full out every day to give a quick scrape of the burnpot....
Cleaning the glass no not while hot.

I have been cleaning my XXV glass all of last season while the
stove was burning. All I do is wipe the glass with a dry paper towel
and the fly ash just comes right off. It only takes 10 seconds to clean the glass that way.
It may not clean the glass as well as when the stove is cold, but it clears it up.

That's what I've been doing with mine & works great, only takes 30 seconds max.
