P38 question

Question for the P38 owners (two actually)
First, is the "brick" that sits on the angle channel in the fire chamber one brick, or does it cover the back wall?
and second, how long does it take for your stove to spool up to full output.
I seem to be getting a decent burn, have only had a few quick fires, and am thinking my output might be a little low.

just one brick, should sit horizontal. depending on how you light the stove it can take anywhere from 3-4 minutes to get up to temp or, if you are using the Gel it can take about 10 minutes or so to get up to temp. Harman has been making that stove for ages, I would suggest assuming that the machine is working fine. Heat output this time of year is hard to evaluate, and without another stove to benchmark against it is next to impossible to be objective.
 
Thanks DT. I havent run it for any periods of time yet. I am using Gel to start at the moment, and most likely havent given it the time to crank, more of a take the chill out of the air thing.
You run the log set in yours? I was debating, does it add any decent asthetics?
 
i dont have the logs in mine, but I know many who do, I think it looks nice. Be gentle, the logs are fragile' (thats italian)
 
the french are always trying to steal from the italians, it used to be italian toast, italian fries,the beret ( oh wait, i think that actually is french)but at least they came up with their own salad dressing.

1........The single fire brick sits horizontally.
2.......My P38 is very responsive and spools up fast , within a few minutes. 3........It`s a small stove and on low it doesn`t put out a lot of heat but it also doesn`t burn up a lot of pellets either.
You want heat? Turn it up to 4 and you`ll get it but it will burn much more fuel.
As usual, No free lunch.
 
Picking up my P 38 tomorrow , will be heating aprox 700 sf on first floor with a cathedral ceiling above the 700 sf area and a 400 sf bed room on 2nd floor .First year in house(10 winters ago) we heated same areas with the gas fireplace-when propane was cheap - after installing ceiling fans -one pulling air up and one pushing air down-bedroom ceased to be a sauna .Specs say P38 will do 1400sf What do you think ? will it be enough ? Winters are pretty mild here in central Delaware LFE
 
Mines a used P38
Ive got a 1400 sq' cape. Looking at it from the street, the stove is on the front wall. The front half of the hosue is one room. The stairs go from the right side up, kitchen and spare bedroom back.
40 degrees out last night, stove on lowest setting and it was 80 +- 5 in the back first floor rooms. House was built in 51, just did blown in insulation. Single paine windows with storms. Front and side door probably have 1/8 to 1/4 gap all around.
Im thinkin it'll do for ya

What Harman Dealer did you buy your stove at in Delaware?

I bought my XXV from Country Stoves and Fireplaces in Fox Run Shopping Center, Bear. If you bought your stove from them don't expect service fast and you will need to keep on them if you do need service, they tend to do new installs over service and they hardly ever return phone calls.

Seems to be a very common denominator with pellet stove dealers.

In some instances that may be true, but not in every case.
Our guys are ALL Harman & Enviro factory-trained as troubleshooters
& repair techs - even the installers.
Matter of fact, some of the sales staff are also factory trained, myself included.
I'll admit we hafta repair Harman units sold by a guy a little bit north of here who is more concerned
with getting the $$$ for the product than he is keeping them running, but our service dept's
reputation will bring customers to us for future buys as well as those who hear of us by
word-of-mouth.

I should have written "some" dealers. Obviously not all should be judged the same. My apologies to you good dealers.
 
The quality of your dealer is as important as the quality of your stove

very true...of equal quality, I agree, Rick. As for service, oddly lately, our techs have ha d a hard time interfacing with some clients.....we fill out a work order, he calls them to make an appoinment....no answer, or you leave a message......and dont hear back. One customer actually made an appoinment, the tech waited in the driveway for an hour, no customer show. Makes another appointment....guess what? happens again......2 hours of time, wasted......

After some light research...you are indeed correct! Spain is the origin of the beret, who'd have thunk it.
 
the only thing I know is errata...just so happens, thats one of them!
