New owner with a question

I'm on my 4th or 5th burn on my new XXV and have a question for the gallery here.

This is my first pellet stove so I'm not really familiar with how high the fire should get.

I run my stove on room temp mode and have it set at about 75 degrees. Fan on low and the fan speed about mid setting. Auger speed at 4.

When the stove first fires up the fire gets very high in the burn chamber and sometimes gets high enough to spill onto the glass in the door. It eventually calms down and looks much like a jet engine The pellet hoper doesn't get even warm and the top of the stove remains cool as well.

The fire is making a soot "swipe" across the top of the glass.

Is this normal or something I need to call the dealer about?

Are you seeing any smoke coming out your vent end. My Advance burned the same way at first and when I went outside, I noticed some smoke visible coming out the pipe. It turns out I needed to cut my feed rate back slightly.

The only smoke I see is when the stove is first igniting.

Maybe I'll pull the auger back to 3 1/2 and see if that helps.
