My opinion and my taste? I would take a free one. I personally would not buy one. Read Hearthstone reviews? Search Reviews here!

There was a Hearthstone for sale in Austin, TX - like new, and the owner said it did not heat adequately - did not heat properly in AUSTIN, TEXAS?

Thats like sunblock not working in a cave, i.m.h.o.

I used a h1 in the 80s and we heated a large house with the windows open. I liked it . This year i bought a new equinox .Its a real cooker. I liked the H1 because of the large fire box . It put out lots of heat.

If a Heartstone would not heat a house in Texas something was not right. Too small a stove, too big a house, improperly operated, wrong wood etc...

I live just south of the Canadian border where it gets really cold, like 30 below, and heated my house for 9 years with a Hearthstone Mansfield. They are well designed, well built stoves designed to slowly give off heat. No soapstone stove will give immediate heat, but they hold that heat long after the fire dies out.

I'd buy another one in an instant, if I hadn't switched to a wood boiler.

I have an H2. I also have the manual that has both the H1 and H2. I can scan it and email it when I get time if you want. We haven't used ours yet as we are finishing up rehabbing it. But I think it should be fine. I'm not quite sure what the big difference between these and the newer Hearthstones that everyone talks about other than the larger glass. I'm sure they have fine tuned things over the years, but I can't imagine the huge difference that others seem to imply. The price was right! I was thrilled to get mine for $100. If your friend ever wants to trade for a H2, (he doesn't need such a large beast) let me know, as we have a big old house and the H2 is probably too small for us, we really should have an H1. If you google there is a little bit of info on the web, but not much and the Hearthstone website is about useless AFAIC.

maybe that seller needs to put some wood in the stove,,,or maybe move further south :coolsmirk:
