I have been burning our new VC ENCORE NON CAT for 2 months now and because of all the bad press here about VC, I was sick of what I was in for. Happily I can report that I am very happy with my purchase. When it was delivered, I was in awe of the quality of the stove and especially the quality of the cast Iron. I worked with cast iron all my life and VC cast iron is the finest I have seen. Stove operated great and I have no problem acheiving EVERBURN even with outside temp of 50 degrees. believe me this stove is great. The only reason I write this is because of all the bad stories here about VC. just want folks to know there are some happy customers of VC.

In spite of the issues, I have a soft spot for VC stoves. You're right, their foundry work is excellent. The issues with the downdraft stoves have been with the fragile refractory ceramics. However, they are improving and I'm glad to hear that your setup is working well. When all is right, this is a very nice stove.

Seasoned wood my friends....seasoned wood that is all I am going to say

i agree! my DC Med. Cast stove is working very well.

I'll post some pics from last night.. i had an ash bed about 3 inches thick and when i reloaded it, the everburn was very easy to achieve... burned 7 1/2 hours on not soo good wood!

I agree. My new Encore NC has been great. Of course, following the basics of using seasoned wood, watching the thermometer, observing the written manufacturer's recommendations in the Owners Manual and some common sense.

I rate it as an "excellent," just like my first VC product, a Defiant of 28 years ago. There is just too much Vermont Castings bashing going on.

I have to agree with this. My VC Encore has never given me any problems. I saw a video from an outspoken newbie who was instructing others how to use the everburn system, and I died laughing when I saw that he was having to dry his unsplit wood beforehand next to the stove. Then he left his door open and walked away. These are people who would have problems with any stove.

The blind leading the blind.

It's time to stop bashing VC.

i usually leave some wood by the stove... my hearth is large enough to do so...

i figure it dries is out a bit, and since it's 28 outside, it also warms it up before i toss it in...

hmmm I would like to see that video. Was it on utube?

I think the warantee concerns were valid. Have they burned through that VC stock, so that they're selling waranteed new stoves?

Like a lot of people, a VC was my first intro to woodstoves back in 'da day. Lost the hair off my arm toploading one on more than one occasion as an adolescent. Very fond memories!

Burn a couple years. Inpect the fountain. Yell, scream etc., etc. pay $400 in parts. repeat every couple years. Yeh, great stove...not!

I was think that all VC stoves sold after a date were sold with a warenty. Sadly, all stoves sold before that date had no warenty.

Sounds like you had a not so good experience with VC

Mine works excellent, dry wood and a good chimney are a must. 4 years no problems. If you tend to cross thread light bulbs it might not be the stove for you.

When did you buy your stove?

You certainly have a right to be PO'ed

Stove works great. Durablity is questionable. Professional install, dry wood, no overfire, used 24/7 and I don't cross thread light bulbs.
Have you taken your stove apart and inspected it?

i am getting over it i filled all the giant gapes with furnace cement changed all the gaskets, and with a flue damper"a must"its working alot better no thanks to v.c..the new company not honoring the warranty says to me that they are proberly going to discontinue the vermont casting line.wich i dont want to see happen,i also always loved the look of v.c. stoves its a dam shame.
