I sit here looking at my cold stove listening to the furnace run (because I have company and they mentioned it was chilly in here). My dealer
The Stove Depot", in rutland vemont has been stringing me along all summer and promising me pellets and i have come to the conclusion they have no pellets coming and if they do they will be piece mailing them out 1 ton at a time, which is bad for me because I cannot fit many bags in my honda civic.

Just venting and hoping maybe someone reads this and it keeps them from buying a stove from these useless people. I have called around the area and they all claim to be getting 10-20 calls a day from ex customers of this place begging for pellets. Looks like I will be out of luck for at least the next 2-3 months.

pellet sales does not come to vermont....and order pellets says pellets by dec 30th and very expensive.

walmart in bennington sold out friday am.tractor supply sold last 3 tons this morning.sorry

Try giving this guy a call. Precision heat in Ashuelot, nh 603-239-6400 he had Pike pellets in stock last week and was expecting 110 tons this week. I have burned a few bags now and am pretty happy with the quality.

Your not alone.I and my two neighbors, pre paid in full to a store (who will be named if we don't get the pellets soon) in June. They of course are ready to return our money so they cans sell them for $70.00 per ton more. They have been stringing us long for 3 months with false promise's of delivery and no results
Don't feel bad you not alone.

FYI I'm not defending bad guys, but here is a side you probably don't know. Most dealers make promises based upon promises that were made to them. My store contracted for 450 tons in march, in April with a long time pellet mill. The mill then shut down to do safety improvements. Mean time we told people that we would have pellets, due to what we had been promised. Well the mill promised that they would reopen in August and start shipping. At the end of Sept. they sent a letter saying they needed 5 more weeks to finish the work, but after that they would reevaluate who would get shipments. They don't answer their phones since June. This put us in a pickle and we don't make squat on pellets. We did manage to make good to the cust we promised pellets to, with the help of two other suppliers. We also NEVER take payment in full or any $$ in advance for exactly this reason.
Dealers that are offering your $$ back probably don't have pellets to sell at all, go to the store-if you paid and there are pellets there, why can't you take them
PS the mill is in Quebec, uses white and red bags, red oak pellets from a flooring factory

Still no pellets here.NEWP is not delivering to the dealer we bought (and paid in full in June !!) from.We called NEWP and where told they have to "prioritize" to be sure the dealers who sell wood stoves get theirs !!

I am pretty pissed, the dealer says they still don't have the Oct order yet from NEWP.

getting screwed from one or both and ready to call the Union Leader and the WMUR,and rant.

Can't help but think where this is all going to lead. Some have no pellets, some are considered pigs for planning in advance and getting theirs early, some can't get their stoves, some have pellets and no stoves. If this is what is to be expected in the future with pellet supplies, the whole market is bound to collapse. People are just going to throw their hands up and say screw it. It's already difficult getting the things home, and incredibly expensive to have them delivered. Not everyone has a big truck that can handle a ton or more at a time, people are bringing them home by the bag, jammed up in their cars. This whole experience is going to really test a lot of peoples resolve.

The dealer should have warned you about the pellets. I start shopping for my stove in June, all the dealers I talked to said it will be hard to get pellets. Even pelletdirect was not taking any new order over the summer. Pellet were suppose to come with my stove, but the dealer never got them. I found pellets from local hardware store, walmart and homedepot. Keep calling the walmarts, HDs, lowes and TSC that sell pellets in your area.

Let me give you the customer perspective since you were kind enough to give me the dealer side. I believe he strung me along the entire summer and fall be cause it would be in his best interest to have me NOT look for pellets elsewhere. Trust me this guy is a putz....and i am not the type of person who would bash someone on a forum. But this time i was just so frustrated.

I drove by tonight and he had about 30 tons..so tomorrow i will call and post back my results.

southern vt pellets.as of nov. 4 there were pellets at home depot, walmart in bennington, bakers nurseries in hoosick falls, and tractor supply to get a load this week.also agway in schaiticoke ny.

I went by The Stove Depot in Rutland, VT today and I saw pellets beside the office. Looks like about two trailer loads. Don't know if they are spoken for or not.

Trust us. We get the customer's perspective all day every day. No dealer wants to upset the customer but when we get bad information then that is all we get to pass on. It sucks for us! I have sold Dry Creek pellets for over a decade. The last few years its been like pulling teeth to get them to deliver. This year they promised and we sold bsed on that promise. The last load I got was back in MAY!!! I have a customer call them directly and they told my customer I didn't even have any on order. How does that make me sound to the customer???

I have to agree these are trying times. NEWP had a fire and was shut down for awhile - let alone the high price of sawdust and higher costs of fuel to transport and make pellets. Then there is the demand which is far outstripping supply.

To top all that off, there are snake oil folks getting into the biz. It's one thing to be the victim of circumstances.....quite another when the sharks jump in the water.

One thing that ALL buyers of pellet stoves have to keep in mind. The stores that sell the stoves have almost no special connections to the pellet manufacturers. In other words, they are like Home Depot selling you a Gas Dryer....they don't provide the gas! Many retailers do sell pellets as a convenience, but 95% of retailers are not set up to really move bulk products.

The future of pellets is in bulk movements and sales direct from the makers and brokers...like Pelletsales.com, etc. - and possibly some through the big box stores and a handful of dealers. But it will always be on the customer. That is the way it has always been, and I don't see it changing.
