Beekeeper, the fireplace is flush with the surrounding Duroc, so the stone projects out past the fireplace. This particular stone averages about 1" to 1-1/4" in thickness. Each of these stone companies have a spec. sheet that gives the approximate dimensions of their products. I had brick leftover from the outside walls so I just cut 2" inches off the brick to make the border around the fp unit. The bricks are adhered directly to the Duroc with mortar and screws. So the brick border stands out a little past the stones. I dug out some construction photos that may help.

I think I need to build some sort of chase on the inside so the thin man made stone looks real. Your deal looks really good. What is the depth of the chase from the wall ? Also how tall and deep is your hearth extension (in front of the fireplace) ?

huskyokc, in my installation, I sheet rocked the wall and then framed a chase the full depth of the 7100 unit which was about 24". The completed chase depth from the wall to the front rock face is 27". I made the hearth out of (4) Owens Corning hearth stones. The finished hearth is 13" above the floor and 19" deep. Just finishing our first burning season with the 7100 and I can say it has performed great, we have really enjoyed it! Best of luck with your project.
