It feels good to walk into a warm house.

I just came in cold from sitting in the woods. Nothing like wood heat to warm you up.
It's nice seeing the girls wake up in the morning and curl up next to the wood stove too.

Same here. I just got home from being in the woods. Wife has a nice fire going and beef stew on the stove. Oh ya, and beer in the fridge.

i agree - great day - new log guy stopped by and dropped off about 3 cord worth of log length and then stopped by my sister's home and grabbed a pickup truck full of seasoned hardwood and a nice ham dinner (she doesn't burn anymore)

You must be related to my wife. I have to fight to keep it down in the low 70's. She always nags me that the fire is going out... 75 degrees and a huge bed of coals, just no flames.

I'm adding on here because I can't see starting another thread. I've been a member here for a few weeks and tonite was my first burn.
2pm TDW says"Is it cold in here?"
ME: Yeah you want me to try out the insert?"
TDW: "Yeah just don't forget the cookies in the oven."
3 trays of cookies later.
TDW: " Have you got it going?"
ME: Yeah, I'm plugging the blower."
5pm rolls around
ME:" Honey, what's the thermostat set at?"
TDW: "Should be 68F."
ME: " you want to guess how warm it is?"
TDW: "What is it smart guy?"
ME: "75 deg F."
TDW:WOW
No at least she doesn't think I'm that crazy.

Im sitting here with my gang( three girls ones a newbie, and the wife) thinking the same thing. its about 40 degrees outside, and about 74 in the living room. Just a few splits not a full load.

Gotta love the stoves!

We just got our November natural gas bill... $29 Last year this time it was probably at least $100... maybe more.

Wood heat is the best. It's become difficult to get to the stove to add more firewood, however... the sleeping cats and dog are always in the way!

What is so different between my gas heat and my new wood stove...The difference between how the heat feels is no comparison

no man, why are you not using the stove at night? That is when the outside air is the coldest plus you get no warming from the sun at night, unless you live in a whole lot different area than most of us. Especially come winter time, you'll then really notice a big difference in your fuel bills...and feel much more comfortable in the house too!

Temps above 75 are just not condusive to sleeping. We like it to be 68 for sleeping. Stove is downstairs, bedroom upstairs. Most times there are enough coals to rekindle in the morning.

Now that we have the stove my wife thinks 78 F is normal. I find it way too hot. I usually leave the bedroom door shut so I can get to sleep at night without sweating to death. I will say it is kind of nice to see the wife walking around in shorts and a tank top as opposed to those awful flannel pajamas!

I try and keep my home 74 or less, and the bedroom at 65 whenever possible. I keep the door closed.

We like our house warm! We have our own wood supply, and there is plenty, and do all ourselves, so why not be warm?!

Different people like different temperatures. Most prefer it cooler for sleeping. Closing a door even partway is an option. It is also nice to walk out of the bedroom in the morning, head to the kitchen or living room and have the place warm.

Also, some people have physical problems, like poor circulation or, like me, old polio folks. These people need it to be warmer than 68 degrees in the house or else be putting on more clothing. Tis a simple task to throw another log on the fire and be comfortable.

Woke up this morning and it was 19 outside and 77 inside, but only 74 in the bedrooms. With the forced air furnace, I just shut the vents partially in the bedrooms at night. It's a great feeling not having the propane machine running and draining the bank account, otherwise we'd probably be at 65 degrees all winter. I love it.

This is our first year burning and I will tell you I love the heat we get from wood. We like it about 78 in our family room. We use to keep the house at 68 now we think that is freezing. I do like it cool when we go to bed though.
